Oh, my apologies. Here are a few links that might help you with troubleshooting GE Link Bulbs. Unfortunately GE Link bulbs can be somewhat flakey and there is a known bug in the firmware that can cause them to drop off the network sometimes. For that reason, it’s not officially supported by SmartThings. That being said, many, including myself use them and they work most of the time. Try bringing the SmartThings hub within a few feet from the bulbs that you are trying to pair. Reset the bulb by turning it off and on 5 times pausing about 3 seconds each time. After the fifth time on, it should blink. Go to the marketplace icon in the SmartThings app (bottom righthand corner) and click on the + Connect a New Device link. This will put the SmartThings hub into search and pairing mode. Hopefully, your bulb will be found successfully.

I have a couple of GE Link bulbs. For the most part, they’ve worked fine, though they have occasionally been flaky (i.e. not responding to a single command/phrase/action from the hub, but working when I toggle the light in the ST app or failing to respond to any commands, but then picking up fine if I toggle the actual power to the bulb), but now one of them is totally not responding to ST. The ST app believes the bulb is turning on or off, but it just isn’t happening.
I’ve tried toggling the switch on the lamp that holds the bulb. I’ve tried pulling the power from the ST hub and then plugging it back in. I tried adding the custom device type I saw posted on the forum and switching the bulb to that. I’ve tried changing the name of the bulb in the ST app, as I saw mentioned elsewhere. So …
Just purchased a SmartThings Hub v2 from Amazon along with two GE Link PAR38 smart bulbs (spotlight style). Unfortunately, I’m not having any luck getting either bulb to pair with my hub. A number of people in the community have reported success, so I tried their strategies without success:
Straight out of the box.
1a) Open App on Android device
1b) Select “Connection New Device”
1c) Wait until the lights on the hub start blinking
1d) Turn GE bulb on.
1e) Wait 5 minutes. Nothing.
Reset bulb
2a) Followed the reset procedure of: on for 3 seconds, off for 3 seconds, repeat a total of 5 times. On 6th time, light dims and then goes bright. Turn bulb off.
2b) Open App on Android device
2c) Select “Connection New Device”
2d) Wait until the lights on the hub start blinking
2e) Turn…
Hey Everyone,
So I emailed support because I thought the GE Link bulbs were “Officially Supported”. Apparently they’re not. I couldn’t find a similar thread for what I’m experiencing.
I’ve had to do this twice now in the last two weeks where some of the 5 bulbs I have just either don’t turn on, or they turn on with the smart app and then won’t turn off. The only way I can fix it is to cut the power to the device (switch/unscrew) and then turn the power back on. This wouldn’t be such a pain if I didn’t have to climb on a ladder for my driveway lights. I haven’t been able to determine exactly what is causing this and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and maybe you found a solution. Do you think rebuilding my routing tables might fix it?
Thank you all for your help.
I’ve had two GE bulbs working with SmartThings for quite some time. This 3rd bulb just will not show up as a GE device type.
Steps to reproduce:
Set up lamp 1 foot from SmartThings hub with GE bulb in lamp.
Turn off SmartThings hub.
Turn lamp on and off at 3 second intervals until bulb dims and snaps back on.
Turn on SmartThings hub.
Search for new devices from SmartThings iPhone app
GE bulb blinks several times (you found me)
Device shows up in app as “Thing”
Log in to SmartThings dev page
Edit device called “Thing”
Change device handler to “GE Link Bulb”
Save changes
Try turning light on and off via iPhone App
Light does not respond. State of button does not change from “turning on” or “turning off” after pressed
3rd time is not the charm.
I need a basic rundown on how to connect GE Link bulbs, how to get them to power on and off, how to use a dimmer, and how to schedule them on and off.
Also, I need to know how to get my girlfriend’s device set up with all of the same bulbs I’m linking. Is there a simple way to share all of the paired devices? It seems like this should be intuitive, as more than one person needs to be able to turn the lights on and off!
Reviewing past threads, it looks like people are having no trouble at all getting them to work, so I don’t know why this is such a struggle. I can get my mobile to find the bulbs, and to pair with them, but that’s where it stops. The on/off command doesn’t work, dimmers don’t work, scheduling actions doesn’t work.
What am I doing wrong?
