The End of Groovy Has Arrived

Same.

I, too, was hoping the migration would get rolling again after the holiday pause. I’ve got fewer than 60 devices total. Roughly two-thirds migrated, only a couple “by hand”.

There seems to be little rhyme or reason as to what has and has not migrated. I’ve got one case where two dimmers of the same model, in the same multi-gang box, one was migrated and the other wasn’t.

For what it’s worth I recently finished migrating 112 WebCORE pistons (some fairly complex), I’ve got 243 devices (probably around 20 are obsolete, but I’ll clean that up in time). While I would have loved to do as much as possible with local routines/automations, and the idea of moving to Hubitat was tempting, I landed on using SharpTools. For anything that was too complex or relied on cloud aspects anyway, SharpTools is excellent. Otherwise, I got nearly every piece of lighting automation into a local routine or the new Smart Lighting app (those seem to be the ones that matter most for local execution anyway).

I have had very few DTH devices migrate, even those that are using stock DTH that are listed as migrated… but I’ve re-joined a number of devices or new devices for various reasons and the EDGE drivers I am using are great. I really like the community-developed ones and the feature-rich options they are providing. Additionally, the virtual devices creation drivers (vDEV, Virtual Hub, etc) have been great with creating some nicer options with virtual devices. All-in-all it’s been good, time-consuming, but good (although a few times I had some major frustrations, but I prevailed).

Here’s hoping when my remaining devices do start migrating to EDGE it doesn’t break too much

Big uplift, but I can see better results already with the new architecture. Just one power user’s experience.

Just got a hub and all this seems to be a horrible mess? I’ve been into smart homes for more than 10 years and used everything from Vera to Homey and Homeseer… I got the SmartThings hub believing it had the best compatibility but as it turns out it’s miserable right now…

That’s putting it mildly

If you’re starting from scratch ie a new hub it really is not a complete hot mess. It will not be much different than if it was starting from scratch under groovy. Spend a little time looking for drivers for any of your existing devices and start by installing the ones that you find edge drivers for.

The app itself is greatly improved and has many improvements over previous versions even just a few months ago. I wish the current version was available at the beginning of edge beta it would have saved many of us a lot of time.

Welcome to the community and ask any questions you have you will receive a lot of great feedback

Thanks, this is a complete BS in Norway, as expected, it brings be to general Samsung phone support number.

But I found UK email address for ST and sent to them

Same here from Malta. Keep us posted please on whether you get any assistance with that UK email address.

Same issue in Australia, just took me to the Samsung Members App support, who wanted nothing to do with Smartthings. Also non of their suggested alternatives got anywhere either.

It is useless in the UK too as we just get a form that is sent to Samsung support, and just to add to the fun the body of the form doesn’t seem to make it through, just the title. To be fair Samsung did respond quickly to my most recent request, which was a surprise as I still have unanswered support requests from years ago.

Our only option in the UK is email support. They do sometimes respond in 30 minutes or so for something like a hub code, but more often it is several hours or next day. I suspect they are limited to UK users.

Agreed. I don’t see any reason to use SL now that the routines limit has been upped to 1000

I must have missed this nice little detail. A bit late in the day for me after I migrated so many WebCoRE pistons to SharpTools.

Let’s see and hope!

I sent the email late Friday I think (currently in India, using Korean time so quite confused) … so maybe I will get some answer. If I do, I’ll inform you here!

If they are unable or unwilling to install/enable it for me, not sure what my next step could be? Not sure if it makes any sense to ask Samsung support if they can change my account to let’s say Canada … someone mentioned they aren’t able/willing to do that as well.

As a most drastic measure I might completely delete my Samsung account, and re-open it with (hopefully) the same e-mail address in Canada (VPN of course) but then I would have to start with a hub from scratch :frowning:

It’s extremely frustrating that there is no statement from Samsung on where it is available and where it’s not … and why … they never ever care to mention, in each post that made about it they 're giving impression that anyone can use it, and when you ask them something about it, total silence …

The only feature I really care about is grouping several lights into single device and full control. Would be nice to have some smart color control but not so important to me … Trend setter worked just fine, but it’s a SmartApp and it’s shut down … Light Group is just a colossal half-baked BS … it’s not even a device, så can’t be used with SharpTools for example … not to mention lack of any color control …

I know there is some Edge driver from Mariano, but that is for Zigbee lights, most of my lights are from Wiz … still looking for some elegant solution … not a huge fan of using ST app routines … Rules API is just a major clusterf*** without even proper documentation … WebCORE was a sweet spot, but now it’s gone … forever

Agreed. I am still astonished that they didn’t create a temporary specialist help desk to deal with transition issues, many big companies do. So it goes… :disappointed_relieved:

The only thing I have left are a handful of automations using “sync” (formerly called “mirror”).

I have the same problem, even though something works in the background with connecting things, but incorrectly. I hope it will be resolved soon

18 posts were split to a new topic: Edge Driver for Qubino Thermostat?

I still don’t understand why Smart Lighting (or other SmartThings features) is region locked and not generally available.

I also don’t understand why people in those regions buy SmartThings in spite of it not being fully available to them.

How do you what is available or not before buying it (without reading 100/1000s of forum posts)?

How do you know there is NO support untill you need it?

When I bought mine there were No comments about lack of Support in Australia!

Also Smart Lighting worked well until ST took it away and didnt replace it Without any details provided (they stated that it would be updated to the new “Smart lighting” App which is mysteriouly missing !!!

Respectfully, this is exactly why the new matter standard is being introduced. The amount of research it takes to figure out whether something will work with something else in Home Automation is just crazy. For example, trying to figure out exactly which Ring devices will work with SmartThings can be overwhelming, and that’s just one brand partner. I wouldn’t expect any typical consumer to even know that a feature like smartlighting exists before purchase, let alone to know that it was region locked.
