[ST Edge] Philips Hue LAN [BETA] (3rd Party Driver, Not ST Native)

That seemed to fix it :partying_face:

I had issues as well, looks like the Beta driver was updated on the 14th so required a reboot.

FYI for all users of this driver. ST is currently experiencing a platform wide bug that prevents many drivers from adding new devices. This driver is impacted by the bug. It appears to be in the ST cloud. They are currently investigating. I’ll keep you posted, but you can also follow along on this thread if interested.

I am looking at deleting devices from ST if they are deleted from the Hue app. This would help keep things clean on the ST side and make management cleaner. This would apply to devices, rooms, zones, etc. I previously didn’t do this since ST would delete the automations. Now, they keep the automations even if a device is removed. Would you like the driver to auto cleanup devices deleted in the Hue app?

  • Yes, auto delete devices removed from the Hue app
  • No, keep devices around even if they will not function

Would a list be available or a notification given to users about which devices are removed?

I don’t believe there is a way to send a notification for a deleted device. ST keeps the automations in the automations screen, and you can see it leaves a red placeholder in there for the deleted devices. Then you can either remove them from the automation, or replace them with a new device.

Maybe as a tidy option on the hub settings rather than automated?

Still no update, I guess? @blueyetisoftware

I am also unable to change hue device drivers from ā€œsmartthingsdriver for philips hue devicesā€ TO your beta-drivers now. although properly installed, the choice isnt given within the android app anymore, your driver is not presented anymore. and there is an error message if I try to change the driver via Web App. (ā€œno valid fingerprintā€).

devices WITH your beta driver do not respond to any actions.

Just that ST is working on it. You can following along in that thread that I linked above. Once they fix it, I expect we will see an update there.

This has never been possible. You cannot change Edge drivers for devices connected over the LAN. If you want to use this driver, you will need to scan for them as new devices. I am not aware of any LAN devices in ST that allow for this.

If they were changed over, that would be the reason. They need to be added from scratch.

LAN devices do not have fingerprints yet also frequently exchange security information at the time they are first added. So, although the app will allow you to change from one LAN device driver to another, it probably won’t work once it is changed. The only way to use a different driver for a LAN is to remove the device from the account and re-add it.

The community has requested that the ability to change drivers in the app be greyed out for LAN devices, which at least would keep people from trying it, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Hey BYS, I was wondering, is it at all possible that one day the drivers for the hue lights could allow dimming over a set period of time? I know other drivers can do this and now that my ST app can use lighting groups I can do it through that. it’s just that for my hue lamps, the lighting group feature requires at least 2 lights to be added and it forces the lights to turn white. I wish to dim a single lamp (I can add a virtual light as the second device I guess) but I wish the lamp to remain the colour that it was originally set at

This is possible using the Hue app itself.

There isn’t a requirement for minimum number of lights.

Not aware of anything in ST or Hue that forces a lighting color. Are you talking about the night dimming automation in Hue?

I could only find a way to dim the lights at a set time in the hue app. I more meant it would be nice to be able to set the lights to dim over say 2 minutes or something if they are switched off like the zigbee light multifunction MC driver can do with my ikea bulbs

I think I must have a different light group function on the Australian version of the app as I tried only one light and it said I needed 2

For some reason when I try to make a routine and use the dim gradually function in the lighting group, it only gives me the option of a colour temperature and not colour. I can’t even turn the colour temperature selection off so the lamps always turn to a white light before dimming

Anyway, no stress, It would just be awesome to have this additional control of how lights behave to make transitioning between different scenes more gradual

I’m talking about rooms/zones in the Hue app. If you group them in ST, performance will suffer. Grouping them in Hue would be better for performance and reduce the popcorn effect.

That isn’t part of this driver. That is just what ST allows for their lighting groups. Drivers do not have the ability to interact with those groups. I would recommend Hue groups instead.

I promise I’ve searched and gone through this thread as fine as I can, but I’ve run into an issue and wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

I’ve enrolled/installed the driver and have successfully found my hue hub. I was able to link as well without issue. When I go to ā€œAdd Devicesā€, I can select the device type, it then shows ā€œFinding Sensorsā€ or the appropriate type, and then displays ā€œAddedā€, but it appears nothing is added. I’ve gone through my whole list of devices and it does not add new hue devices. I expect them to populate in the same room as my hub, but nothing loads. I’ve tried many times and have also restarted ST (and hue as well) to see if that’s the problem.

Any ideas here?

I just went through those same steps and added some lights and they appeared as expected, as you say, in the room where the Hub device is. Seems to be working fine for me, though that doesn’t help you much I’m afraid.

There is an issue with ST right now impacting numerous drivers. Post was here:

If this issue with ST prevents devices from being added, how are you getting them to show up? Is the issue intermittent?

I’m not sure, it doesn’t seem to be fully understood, possibly intermittent, possibly only effects some users or setups. I’ve got some issues adding other devices with others drivers which might possibly be affected but I have had no issues at all with this particular Hue driver.

@blueyetisoftware, is there any point in trying to add devices before we hear about resolution? I’m also wondering if this is also why a recent new hue bulb I installed will not show in ST from a couple days ago. This is before I installed your edge driver (and also the reason I decided to install it). I do not believe I had to do anything for new hue bulbs to appear in ST in the past.

I’ve got a new inovelli red series switch with smart bulb capability but it’s of no use if I can’t get my hue bulb into ST!!
