That’s crazy. I also ended up with one that had previously been returned. It needed new batteries and I had to exclude it before I could add it, but otherwise it was fine. At least you got to check them before getting home.
This might explain the deep discounts:
GE is breaking up with the light bulb, its most iconic accomplishment
The article focuses on the drop of the light bulb business, but it’s larger than that. They said they are focusing on Health, Power and Aviation moving forward. So it’s possible that all of these GE smart home devices are going to be discontinued (or already are).
FWIW GE doesn’t make their zwave and signee switches. Those are made my Jasco. I doubt anything will change other than GE name on them.
I agree with Michael. This particular clearance had more to do with Walmart clearing out the older Z-Wave models. Time for Z-wave Plus
I picked up a pair of switches @ $19 a week or so ago. Then the wife went back the next day and everything was $8. She picked up another switch, dimmer, couple Lamp modules, and 2 motions. I hadn’t even messed with them since she bought them, but decided to check today after reading your message. All seems legit minus one motion that was an empty box.
Don’t they open them on returns to make sure the items are in the box? If so, must be inside job switching them out.
No joy at my local Wally World. Couldn’t find them at all. I may try a larger one that’s nearby at the weekend.
Honestly, I’m about built out on switches/dimmers and I have a shelf load of Iris sensors awaiting deployment. But this sale seemed intriguing and I can always sell them on to those that need them.
I could, however, handle another couple of outdoor switches.
This is Wal-Mart we’re talking about .
I’ve had the same at Lowes…bought what was supposed to be a GE Zwave dimmer, inside the box was a plain jane non-Smart dimmer.
Lowes took it back w/out issue. Opened up two more, IIRC, one of those two was bogus as well.
I had a first gen motion sensor in a second gen box from Lowes. We all know how that happened .
My favorite was a digital camera I bought 15 years ago from Circuit City (god, I feel old). Did tons of research and comparisons, decided on the camera. Went in, took like 30 minutes to convince myself it was what I really wanted to do, took another 20 minutes to find an employee to help me, bought the camera, took it home, opened it up… and it’s a beat to hell older model… son of a…
Took it back to the store and from the way they were looking at me, you could tell they thought I was the one returning the bogus product.
But yeah… Wal-Mart doesn’t care.
Yes of course, it’s obvious… @jkp switched 'em.
Ha ha funny you should say that. I just returned from lowes. I can only take credit if they are located in the east coast or southern states.
I had given up on finding any of these after visiting two local stores when this thread first popped up and had no luck finding any in stock nor finding any employee who knew where to find them.
This weekend I happened to be in one of the same stores again to pick up some craft supplies and happened to stroll through the clearance section and there they were…one outdoor dongle and two indoor outlets. Woot!! I had just been telling my wife I wished I had found some of the outdoor dongles since it would have been quite handy for the holiday lights.
Have 6 of them and wife decided to run the lights all in series…Only used 1 outside! Dang!
At least I was able to use two other ones for the lights inside but still glad I have some spares.
Wish these had power meters as they would be much more useful…
I was just able to grab 1 dimmer, 2 switches, and 2 outdoor outlets.
The store also had 2 indoor outlets and 2 motion detectors but I didn’t feel the need to grab those.
Thanks for the heads up.
As part of my vacation time off between Christmas and new years I decided to try to get as much of the home automation stuff that I have lying around installed. I’ve slowly been buying things over the last couple months when it went on sale and couple days ago I went through and installed some GE Z wave plus at the front door, the back door, one in the center of the upstairs, and one in the center of the downstairs. I did that because I was thinking of getting some GE outdoor plugs and I want to make sure my Z-wave network would extend outside.
Well, anyone still looking, there seems to be a bunch of these switches still available at Walmart. I just hit up a store that was 20 miles away because brick seek said they had 4 of the 12722 switches , couple dimmers, and a couple outdoor plugs. Sure enough they had just moved them to their clearance rack right outside of the electronics department. I couldn’t find them but I gave the UPC number to an employee who tracked them down.
Now i have 5 more switches and some outdoor plugs to install…
Are these still on sale?
Depends on where you look. Just last weekend I found another store that still had 4 dimmers, so I got those. They had a couple of motion sensors and indoor plugs, but I’m maxed out on those. The stores I’ve wiped out have all been in the Katy, TX area. The Houston stores don’t have these marked down.
The store I went to said they had 4 switches 3 dimmers and some outdoor plugs in stock and sure enough that’s exactly what they had. I bought the 4 switchs, 2 outdoor plugs, and one dimmer which I didn’t really need but couldn’t pass up for $21.
Brick seek seems to be pretty accurate. If it shows some in stock but you can’t find any have one of their people look it up by its UPC code, which is also on brick seek.
YMMV - Brick showed stock at two local stores.
One had none, including search via UPC and multiple employees looking. The other had a couple items, less than indicated and not the same items indicated by Brick Seek.
