Adding a new User in app v2

I migrated to v2 hub last Sunday and I am still working on finishing up everything but I was able to add my wife’s iPhone last night. She has full control of all the devices and it knows when she leaves and comes home. It actually detects her leaving about 2 minutes before me when we are in the same car. Looks like they haven’t fixed the presence issues within the new hub.

@hscox030 Did you log on with her user account, or yours?

Here is what I remember about last night. I believe v2 app said you had to uninstall the old app before installing the new but her iPhone was set to auto update so even though it updated to 2.0.2 I uninstalled it then installed 2.0.2 fresh. After that she logged into her phone with her account and was able to add it and control everything. I don’t know if any of the above had anything to do with it working for us or we just got lucky but I haven’t had too much luck with ST in the past few months so I thought I’d explain the process we went through.

I was struggling with this and then realized… If they can do everything you can, just login to your account on their phone. I did that and created a mobile presence for my wife. That’ll work for what I need it for.

I tried this. When I logged in on my wife’s phone with my account and tried to add her phone presence, it said, this phone is already added. It was referring to my phone even though I was on her phone.

I had the same results a jeremykeen. I logged into my account on my daughter’s fphone and it was the phone was already being used as a mobile presence. If that is true, then it is using two phones to detect my presence which would be an issue as soon as one phone left the house and it detected ‘left’ event.

I’ve been lurking for months. Finally got my first ST and it seems some of the features I read about on the V2 are broken or missing. This seems to be one of them.

Slightly disappointed…slightly.

I just got the Hub v2 today and setting up devices, I am trying add my wife phone as a presence sensor but I can’t. Disappointed that a simple feature such as adding a user is not working for weeks.

This is very disappointing as many of my use cases depend on knowing if either my wife or myself are at home or are arriving home. I hope they fix it soon. Im new here…does ST support usually respond with ETAs in the forum?

I’ve solved this issue for now by using the Life360 integration. Then I can still have my wife’s presence as input to Smartthings, even though she is unable to access ST from her phone. This issue does need resolved quickly though.

Yes, I’m a new ST user, and this severely cripples my usage. If I’m the only one who can control things, and presence sensing doesn’t work for anyone but me, I’m definitely not getting what I want/need out of this thing.

this is an odd omission for a new device…at launch. my V! hub is sitting on my desk, i can’t really see the benefits of all the headache i went the to “upgrade” including paying for a lesser device. this is odd, very odd. i have to trigger everything manually which defeats the purpose. my home is not dumb, but def. not smart.

I’d like for this to be resolved as well, it’s very disappointing.

My significant other works from home so blanket actions like “Armed when everyone leaves” doesn’t apply because they are still present in the home while I leave for work, but the Hub isn’t aware of them since I can’t add their phone as a user/device and therefore I can’t properly arm the system.

Put me in the same boat as others here. Just got the Hub V2 (fresh setup), set it up and got my iPhone going, but can’t add another user at the moment. I’m sure this will be fixed eventually, but not a good way to start my Smartthings experience.

ST Folks

This is getting old and needs to be addressed promptly as it is now two weeks we are waiting for this fix. Presently the system the way it is makes it nothing more than a paperweight.

I see in the forum one already is changing system due to the inability of smartthings to rectify issues promptly.

We need thing to happen in order to make this the superior product it can be.

Let’s do this please.

ah, may need to temper your expectations a bit there @jerzydiver… ST works on their own schedule, and with different “standards”…

I figured I’d add my voice as a data point in case it’s not an issue across all users. I have added my phone to a brand new v2 setup and am unable to add my wife’s phone. Both are iPhones.

I appreciate the effort that is being put towards a solution to this.

You can add me too. I am a new user to smartthings, and patiently waited for the V2 hub. I knew about this functionality, and it is fundamental to my desired setup, so I hope it is restored quickly. I can understand the need to get products out the door, but it is disconcerting that something so important is broken.

I got the following reply this afternoon from ST on the subject of adding additional users -

Hey Bob,
So, you might have noticed that we’ve temporarily disabled the ability to add or remove users from your account… don’t worry, it’s a feature!
We’re improving how user sharing works at the moment - so rather than have new people go through all the inviting and creating only to find out that they can’t actually share the account just yet, we decided to disable it.
Not to worry though, it’ll be back and better than ever, soon! Sit tight, and we’ll let you know when you may add (and axe) loved ones and friends alike. Sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we turn this feature back on.
If there’s anything we can help you with in the meantime, don’t hesitate to ask!

Bump. I’m new to the forums and the platform, and had no indication that I bought an unfinished product. In fact, the older YouTube videos I saw showcased multiple users. I have to admit I’m 50/50 on whether to wait or return it and come back in a year.
