What is the best smart 3-way dimmer switch in 2023 to match existing GE dimmers?

I have several GE (some embrighten) dimmer switches (all Z-Wave) and they’ve all been rock solid, no issues. Model # 46203

I need to pick up 2 more and see there’s a cheaper 46201 model but there’s reviews that say it doesn’t work well with Smartthings

Does anyone have a suggestion for the best, issue free dimmer switch that you can incorporate a 3-way add on switch? I would prefer GE as it matches my others but would be open to any recommendation that is for sure to work (and easy to install)

The 4620* devices are both from the same series. They’re the new enbrighten version of the Ge Jasco switches.

46201 is the switch
46203 is the dimmer.

Thats all

They both work fine and I recommend Phil’s driver for them both.

And for the addon for Jascos you MUST use a Jasco compatible addon switch. A standard switch won’t work.

Wow thank you so much for pointing this out, I totally missed that 46201 was not a dimmer
When I look on Amazon, the 46203 that I’ve purchased several times seems like it’s out of stock (only used?) I wonder if it’s discontinued

Any idea the replacement or something that’s available?
On the Jasco site, I see a 58438 but I don’t see that available on any other sites including Amazon
They also have a no neutral 52252 - Being that I have a neutral I don’t know what is preferred?

For the add on switch, the one I was looking at is 46199. Is that what you were suggesting?

No there’s been a general scarcity on Silicon Labs Zwave chips (which until recently is the ONLY source for the chips) - that’s all. You think these are hard to find - try finding an Inovelli…

GE devices are OEM’d by Jasco. You can try the Jasco site (byjasco.com) and other channels. The Jasco switches are also available under other names (Ultipro is one I know)

Other ZWave brands I have personally used include Jasco (see previous) Zooz, and Inovelli.

If you HAVE a neutral - don’t get a no neutral switch - it’s a workaround to a problem you don’t have.

Yes that’s the correct Add-On

Ok thank you, I’ll plan to order likely directly from the Jasco site unless it comes in stock at Amazon in the next 24-48 hours.

One last question/confirmation if you don’t mind, If the switches that you’d want start with the 4620x, is this one on the Jasco site that is 58438 still the same? Just seems odd that it has a different model number structure. Let me know if this is what you’d recommend, (and then I’d be pairing it with the 46199 add on)

Jasco just released their z-wave 700 series products, so that’s probably the model number difference.

That’s Exactly it. I didn’t know they were actually out yet. I that case this makes total sense. They’re clearing the channel from the 4xxx line.

You may want to take a look at the UltraPro line of dimmers. Amazon has a 2-pack available for less than the 1-pack of Enbrighten dimmers. UltraPro/GE/Enbrighten are all made by Jasco. I have used all of these and cannot tell the difference between any of them, other than the stamping on the metal plate on the front. Once you put the switch plate cover on, they are indistinguishable from each other.

Thank you, I’ll likely be getting this.

I see that now, interesting. I wonder if there’s any difference, have you tried this series yet?

700 chips will all support S2 security by default, use qr code pairing and have a longer range in general than thier earlier counterparts. Probably supports more central scene options and I think possibly a higher number of supported direct association partners but?

In general just better faster stronger.

That said we don’t know what uniqueness they will introduce.

Ok, sounds only positive and hopefully no surprise negatives. I know there’s always positive/negative reviews but the GE/Jasco ones I’ve used have worked great so far in all my other rooms.

This UltraPro one is tempting, Obviously it’s cheaper but I also like the Amazon 1 day shipping.

I actually want:
(2) Dimmers (separate rooms)
(1) Add on switch; (only for the first room)

On the link you posted, it looks like there’s a combination for $82.86 that comes with the exact 2 + 1 combination I’m looking for.

I’m torn here, I hate to over pay for the 700 series from Jasco, but I’m having these installed by my basement finishing contractor, if there’s any issues or compatibility problems the day these are to go in, that would be frustration. I’m tempted to play it safe and get the Jasco one, but I’m here for recommendations/opinions.

Unless those are reeeeeeeally far away for your other stuff. I’d go cheaper.

Playing around with promo codes, I found a Jasco 15% one that works
So it’s $124.07 for the 2X 700 series and the 1X add on switch.

I haven’t entered my info yet to get a final price but if I luck out and if Jasco is a no sales tax site, I’d be looking at $124 (free shipping) vs $82 ($87 with tax) for the Amazon Ultrapro so basically a $37-$41 difference. Hmmmm

I think the 700 series also has a color selectable LED. But yeah, I’d go with cheaper since they’re both Jasco. I have a couple of the Ultra pro model that have been rock solid for several months.

Ok thank you again for the suggestion, as a last check is that $82.86 link I posted to you as a follow up the exact one you’d buy in my case ?

Just thought I’d throw out here that GE/Jasco has a Zigbee line for these was well. They use the same add-on for 3-way that the Z-wave devices use.

I have a mix of Z-wave and Zigbee switches and dimmers from Zooz, GE/Jasco, and Leviton. They’re all good brands. In some situations I prefer the Leviton dimmer form factor for 3-ways but they have very particular wiring requirements.

Slight tangent: do 700-series devices still work without S2 security?

I’m out in the country so no concerns about neighbors hacking into my Z-wave mesh and none of my existing devices have security enabled.

UltraPro is Jasco. I think the biggest difference is that the UltraPro come in a relatively nondescript brown box (despite the picture on Amazon), where the Enbrighten has colorful retail packaging. Like I said above, I have used both and they are identical to one another other than the stamping in the metal on the front of the switch.

I know the SmartThings V2 hub (2015) has a 500-series Z-Wave chipset. Not sure about the V3 (2018)/Aeotec hub, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it also has a 500-series chipset. (If someone knows better, please chime in.) So realistically, you would not experience any of the 700-series benefits.

That is a good point to the Zigbee options, maybe I’m crazy here but I’m also considering a backup to SmartThings with these switches.

I am pretty deep in the Ring eco system (Cameras, home alarm, leak sensors, etc.) and you supposedly can connect Z-Wave switches to my alarm hub then connect to Alexa for voice commands.

I’m 100% committed to my SmartThings hub, but if my genuine Samsung hub ever dies or there’s any other reason to leave them, I am under the believe I can connect these switches to my Ring hub.
