V2 Hub No Longer Properly Responding After Internet Outage

I fear I may have angered my V2 hub by discussing replacing it in another thread… Our internet went out this afternoon, then came back after about an hour. However, since then Smartthings doesn’t seem to work - I get unchanging readings from all sensors except my Ecobee thermostat (which I can fully control and read), and I can see my Ring cameras in the app. Checked on another phone, it shows the same, so it’s not the app,

Based on other threads with similar issues, I have recycled power on the V2 hub and done a couple soft reboots as well as power cycled my router and modem. The V2 hub lights seem to work as expected - blue when I disconnect the Ethernet, yellow then magenta and blue when I soft reboot (though it reboots in only a couple minutes, not 10) and green once it has finished rebooting or powering back on and Ethernet is connected. I have power cycled several sensors to see if that helped, but nothing changed.

All the motion sensors (multiple brands) showed multiple “motion detected” and “no motion” all at 3:27pm, presumably the moment the internet came back. Now they and all other sensors are frozen in their last reported state.

Any idea what’s going on and how I might fix it? Thanks.

Hi,
It seems that a number of people are experiencing problems with their V2 (2015) hubs, including myself. In my case all my Zigbee devices were offline, but none of my Z-Wave devices. A full restart eventually solved my problem.
Other people are seeing only Z-Wave devices either offline or online but not working. People have had varying degrees of success with restarts.
The (partial) consensus is that the upcoming 0.59.08 release, scheduled to begin on Monday 12th may well solve the problem. 0.59.08 was rolled out to V3 and V4 (Aeotec V2) hubs in early December and there is a somewhat widely held suspicion that related cloud-side changes may have ‘temporarily’ screwed some V2 hubs.
I would advise against a factory reset for now (just my 2c).

In my case all devices show online.

Except for a Z-wave switch, far away.

Maybe the routing is broken? I see no, or very slow connection path display. It says “it may take ten minutes”, while at my other hubs the path shows instantaniously.

I called Smartthings support, and (big surprise) this is the first they’ve heard of this issue. It’s been escalated, but I need the system up and running so I’m a bit desperate. I don’t have a lot of faith Samsung will get this fixed any time soon.

I’m wondering if I buy a V3 hub and do a transfer that will work? (I don’t want a V3 hub, but have Zwave devices so I can’t get a V4.)

Exactly that question. I am not at the location but have a spare V3. Anybody Experience?

I want to install the v3 and just start with one device removing from v2 etc. Do not have he guts to do a whole transfer

In my case a random assortment of ZigBee or Z-wave devices showing online/offline yet all of them inop for 8 days. No variation of power cycles or mesh rebuilding helps. Can delete a Zigbee device but cannot completely add either type. Moving a ZigBee device to another room causes a one time update then inop.

Avoiding a factory reset for now because I think I read that does not help either. Trying to be patient waiting for any type of progressive updates.

Got a V3 hub today and (unsurprisingly) a transfer does not completely work. But the results weren’t quite what I expected - all Z-wave devices came back but I got a random assortment of Zigbee devices. About half came back.

So, to be safe, I deleted the new hub and did a hard reset. Am in the process of re-adding everything. Lots of fun. Hopefully Samsung fixes things for everyone else, but I didn’t have the time to wait or the confidence they’ll get it right, especially after talking to their clueless Tech Support.

You did a hard reset because maybe your V3 is poisoned by the V2?

Never did an Aeotec hard reset in my life…

Because of bad weather conditions I may not even able to bring my new V3 to the location.

What version did you get on yourV3 after a hard reset? 58, 59?

Pls keep us informed

Exactly. I was a bit tempted to just replace the half of the Zigbee sensors that didn’t come back, which would have saved a few hours of work. But not knowing if I was carrying something bad over, I just did the full reset to be sure.

Seems like it was successful, I’ve managed to get everything to pair back. Some devices were a big pain in the neck, but not much different from the challenges in resetting and pairing devices in any situation. (I’ve managed to accumulate quite an assortment of brands of similar devices over the years, so figuring out how to reset each kind took awhile…)

Firmware is 59.00008 on the V3.

So not so “hard” as the firmware stays

I believe a hard reset does not revert firmware.
Reverting firmware to factory would leave hub in a state where it had an expired security key which is a problem documented elsewhere on this site.

I’m not sure if the firmware stayed or not. After the hard reset the app did say that it was updating the firmware for a while, which seems strange as I would assume it was in some kind of flashable ROM. But perhaps it was just the interface going through some kind of standard messages - the light does turn green well before the app says it’s finished.

Turns out I do have one issue - both of my IKEA Badring water sensors are reporting zero battery, even when the battery has been replaced. One of them Smartthings said went offline. They beep when they sense water, but the hub doesn’t seem to know. Everything else still seems okay.

After your story I think the step by step from v2 to V3 maybe the solution.

As I cannot reach the location (weather)I can only wait for 59
