Unable to connect to KS8000

Really interesting reply from Smartthings support this time. The post he is referring to is SamsungCole on Samsung Community - Samsung Community

Hi Eric,
The reason it is the same response because we are still working on it and there are still engineers working on it. As of December 20th, 2017, there are engineers talking about their efforts and are working hard on making it work again.
That post is wrong and we have reached out to the Samsung Team to correct this. The Firmware on the TV is exactly what broke the integration.
The support hasn’t been removed, it’s just changed in how it operates and we are reworking it.
I apologize that the Samsung TV Team broke the integration with SmartThings, it came as a surprise to the SmartThings Team as well.
The Samsung Connect App can connect to Google Assistant but for it to have both SmartThings and Samsung Connect, you would need to tear down your build and redo it in the Connect App. We are working on a way to not have to do this for the future but it is not the case at this time.
Currently, if you want voice control, you either need to redo your setup in the Connect App and then use SmartThings with your Samsung Account or use a Logitech Harmony Hub.
Kind regards,
Jake K.

Its almost been 4 months, what’s the joke here Samsung - any updates?

Crickets around here. Continue to call and report. Any recourse for selling a TV series with a feature and later removing?

Unfortunately no not int this case, Samsung pays their legal disclosure team well…

I think, at this point, our only recourse is to wait and see what happens once Samsung releases the new smartthings app that’s supposed to combine all of their IoT products under that app. Honestly, I think we’ll still be ignored. At this point, I’ve given up and I’m watching for deals on a harmony hub to control my TV. I’ll never buy another Samsung TV though. They ruined that for me.

Same, my first Samsung TV will be my last.

Honestly I’ve had bad experiences with sony xbrs and others. Samsung makes the best tv screen imo. If you really want ST integration before they fix it or whatever, get a [harmony smart control](Logitech Harmony Smart Control - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BQ5RYI4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_C92yAbHW3XBG7), it’s like $75 on amazon. Between that and action tiles using the Samsung tv web browser, you have probably more integration than the samsung tv ST app will offer.

I understand though, that’s a big selling point! But, for $100 a $4000 tv makes u happy again.

Just curious, what do people do with their TV’s connected to SmartThings? I’m new to automation so generally curious… I can’t see any reason other than a “cool factor” to have this…

I have a KS8000 as well and was trying to add it just for the heck of it. .No dice…

Notifications, control and automatons. Camera viewers etc.

Can you elaborate? What kind of notifications? And are you saying you’d be able to view your wifi cameras on the TV??

You were able to send notifications to it using CoRE and WebCoRE631ff6572db394e89f77591bf5b3be2fc2912156_1_690x254

Which samsung connect does but you can’t control it yet. Like it says when I leave the fridge open.

:open_mouth: Holy crap! Is that all your smart devices? Man, this is exciting!! So KS8000 was able to do all this until they updated the firmware and broke it?!

Not exactly, but getting overlay notifications was possible. It’s nice because you don’t have to have voice notifications for everything nor check ur phone.

That pic is using the webrowser on the samsung tv, through action tiles. There’s actually more tiles not shown! It’s addicting.

Turning on/off by voice thru my google home was my favorite feature!

If its just turning the TV on/off via Google Assistant, attach a chromecast to the TV. I started doing it since my last post here since I already have a chromecast connected to this TV. Works great! Remember that the chromecast needs to get its power from a power outlet, not from the TV, for the “turn on” command to work.

Also created a shortcut in the assistant app to turn on/off both the TV and speaker system (smart switch) in response to specific commands.

The harmony method mentioned by a lot of people here is definitely the best way to do it though. Its just one more piece of hardware to buy.

What if the USB is powered even when the tv is off? Will it activate hdmi CEC then?

As long as the chromecast has power, it will turn on/off the TV attached to it.

For the KS8000 and an older Samsung LCD TV, power to my chromecast turns off as soon as the TV is off. Are there other TVs that continue to power USB ports even when they are turned off (standby)?
