This is a MINOR issue in comparison to having no automated way to migrate from one box to another, backup and restore/recovery,etc… How do we know Samsung is either backing up or replicating the cloud data? This is nothing more than a fun toy until Samsung starts treating it like a critical system. Partnering with ADT tells me a whole lot about how Samsung thinks about Home Automation.
Have the same issue since a couple of months now. Started using a smart power plug to turn the TV on/off since then.
Bad idea? I know the tv is running an actual OS and I am basically pulling out the plug everytime I turn it off this way, but at least this works and is cheap to implement. Anyone know of these tvs getting corrupted to the point of being unrecoverable?
add your tv to samsung connect, then log into smartthings with your samsung account. that is how i fixed it. i’ve had smartthings for years and years and just recently powered my hub back on. glad to see its still in beta like the generation 1 hub.
Unfortunately, this is not the solution for most smart things users since most of us already have a ton of automation setup on the smart things account. There is currently no easy way to port everything to the Samsung account, short of starting fresh.
right, but like i said, smartthings is still beta
yeah, it’s not the cut off that hurts it but the frequent repowering, electricity coming in from none. My harmony smart hub is by far my favorite smart device. For $58 on walmart.com right now, it’s an incredible value. The integration with ST is also impressive and fast.
Is anyone actually trying to fix this or is it just being pushed aside?
This is accurate and the most up-to-date information:
I think that’s the app on the TV which was never usable. That’s different than the TV being seen as a “thing” in the smartthings app on your phone. Someone who knows more than me should confirm if what I’m saying is correct though.
This is correct.
Can anyone explain why Samsung reps are saying it was discontinued but SmartThings is saying it is not. That it is just broken?

Honestly, I don’t think Samsung’s TV department and SmartThings really talk to each other. The other thing you have to take into account is the different people that we are talking to at each company. The moderators should know what they are talking about before they say anything but don’t always know what they are talking about. The twitter moderators usually don’t have a clue, they are just PR people. I would consider the ability to control your TV from SmartThings dead until something changes but I doubt it will.
I think the TV team is talking about the samsung connect TV dongle being discontinued, it had been in beta for some time and they recently gave it the official axe.
I’d say they are being pretty specific. There is a major disconnect. Either it has been discontinued and SmartThings is lying to us or Samsung is. One of the two.
I would read that article with a grain of salt, it has no credible sources. Most of its information came from Samsung/ST community sites so our assumptions are as valid as his. I agree, major disconnect and finger pointing going on inside of Samsung. Not good for the brands image.
Blink is removing support for ST but is offering a full refund for purchases placed in the last year. I think the Samsung TV division should offer the same…
2 of those posts were actually mine. One was obvious, the other, referencing purchasing the TV in February was also my post on the samsung+ community. Anyway, seems SamsungCole may have some ‘splainin’ to do. lol

… exactly the same. Verbatim.
Welp. Looking in this thread Please help! Can't connect Samsung TV ks8000 to SmartThings hub - and with other info, it seems Samsung seems to have deliberately disabled the Smartthings integration with the KS8000 to try to replace it with crappy samsung connect integration??
I tried to download the Samsung Connect app & added my TV there. Big whoop, a wifi remote. NOT what I want. I went and tried to connect to samsung connect via google home - but I can only integrate with “smartthings/samsung connect” in one go, and guess what that points to my smartthings.
I tried to go to my samsung account instead of smartthings, no go. So I have a TV out here in limbo that I can’t turn on and off from my google home, because Samsung wants to try to push their latest and greatest crap which doesn’t integrate with jack squat.
How about your existing customers? If this is the kind of support we are going to get, there is no way I would ever buy any samsung connect or any other garbage that is just going to get support ripped out when marketing decides to try something new.
Cross-posted here as well, and you can see some of the conflicting messaging from Samsung in the thread there: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/TVs/Smartthings-integration-on-TVs-broken-for-months/m-p/239237/highlight/false
I have ks8000 and still waiting for resolution.
