[ST Edge] Philips Hue LAN [BETA] (3rd Party Driver, Not ST Native)

@dwchan69 and @Nerijus_Burcikas Due to an issue with initializing drivers in ST, I recommend restarting your ST hub after adding new hub devices. That should resolve your issues.

@dwchan69 I would also just discovery all 9 of your hubs at once and do a single restart afterward to speed things up.

Thanks, it seem to be pretty consistent but restarting the ST hub definitively fixed it.

It did fixed. Thank you

Hi there, has source code been released yet for this driver? I am very excited about the feature set – but I usually like to audit edge drivers before installing them.

No. The source is closed and there isn’t a plan to open it up at this time.

I appreciate the quick response! You’ve done some really cool work and the driver works wonders compared to the traditional integration. Please tell me if I’m being too pushy, but as a newer developer, what is the reason behind not open sourcing it? As I dive into my own edge driver journey for some other devices I’m curious to know if I should be hesitant of open sourcing them.

You shouldn’t be hesitant. I’m just not interested in supporting an open source project. There is also a potential that ST creates a driver store down the road, although I’m not convinced that will happen. For now, I’m just offering it up for people that want to use it.

Nice that makes total sense.

Hi all just checking that my setup is working as intended… When I use a hue switch it doesn’t register in the Smart Things app or google home that the light is on. The actual switch entry in Smart Things doesn’t register any clicks and remain in standby mode. Have I done something weird here?

The Hue app registers the clicks and shows the light as on and neither Smart Things or GH shows the same light state.

Thanks!

Google Home doesn’t interact with this driver. It sounds like you are using the stock connected services. Can you please verify you are using this driver? It is only for SmartThings. If so, the quickest remedy is usually to restart your ST hub. If you are savvy with the ST CLI, a log file would be appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to me - I enrolled and followed the instructions in the automate your life video and was so impressed I removed hue as a service which in turn removed all hue devices in GH. Once I synced again they were back in GH through ST.

Is that right?

So your hue driver > ST > GH I believe.

I’ll look for a way to grab a log file when I get a chance and restart the hub.

Also hue doesn’t appear as a linked service in GH, only ST

Thanks again!

@blueyetisoftware I can confirm your driver actually goes to Google Home trough SmartThings, didn’t notice anything weird with the switches though, but also I didn’t import any of my switches with your driver.

This is correct. GH is not related to this driver. It get its data from the ST cloud.

It’s important to note that edge drivers do not interact with GH in any way. GH gets their data from the ST cloud no matter how that data gets there. I bring this up because if the GH integration were to stop working, there isn’t anything an edge driver could do about it.

Thanks. Grabbing this before the restart should hopefully show an issue and explain your case.

This one is strange. Hue should not show as a linked service when using this driver. The default Hue driver does show as a linked service. You can use them together, but just know that this driver does not use the linked service (cloud) integration with Hue. This driver strictly uses local control.

Shoud it work with the built-in hub of my Samsung TV? I installed the driver and all but it didn’t find my Hue hub.
I have two TVs, one with Smartthings Dongle plugged in (to add zigbee), but neither found the Hue hub.

Sorry I should have been more clear - Hue isn’t in GH and only appears in ST as the hub and driver. I removed the linked service after this worked so well but then discovered some issues with my switches. Is there a way to re-link them or a best practice on how to do it? I have a look at the logs and it is beyond me I’m afraid.

It looks like (to me anyway) that the hue switches are turning on the lights and only the hue app is recognising that they are on. As I said earlier the presses aren’t showing in the ST app and with the switches that came across.

Please DM me the following info and I can take a look:

  1. Type of switches being used
  2. ST app version
  3. ST firmware version
  4. Hue firmware versions for the hub and for the switch
  5. Type of ST hub being used (Aeotec v3?)

Thanks mate - DM sent.

Thanks bud! Finally got my sharptools.io tablets back working again with my groups and scenes! Fantastic!

Two questions regarding “Alert: Blink”:

  1. I know it was previously discussed but any thoughts on adding the single blink option into the driver soon?
  2. Is there any way to run the effect in a routine, without setting the light state to “Turn On”? Therefore, on execution the lights blink but return back to the previous state they were in (such as Off). In the old Groovy days this was possible in a smart app but not sure the feasibility in a routine…may require some hacky solution.

This can already be done. Just don’t select ON. If ST highlights it, just unselect it.

I would need to look this up again. I honestly lost track of it. If I remember correctly, it wasn’t a true effect, but a select option in the old API.
