I had one of these Samsung SmartThings Vision GP-U999GTEEAAC fail recently, stuck in boot with blinking green light, just failed out of nowhere after working fine for over a year. Factory reset does not resolve. I happened to have a brand new spare lying around and I’ve tried to set it up to replace the faulty one but it just won’t onboard. The setup process is near impossible, you scan the devices qr code and smartthings detects it and all of my vision sensors as a ‘skytag suitcase’. If run through a nearby scam it can’t be found, I have to manually enter the serial number after selecting the correct device from the list of possible devices, this whole process then fails at the registering to your account stage and the vision sensor shows error with blinking red light. It would appear these have been neglected by smartthings and Samsung and don’t appear to be supported anymore. Anyone else having issues or possible solutions?
Yeah I saw that thread, different issue to mine. I have been able to set up two of these things in the time since that thread. I don’t get any specific error code, just a failed registration of the device to my account. And I suspect it’s because snartthings wrongly identifies these as a ‘skytag suitcase’ when you scan the QR code to onboard it.
Best recommendation is to contact Samsung Support in Australia if that is your Region (probably going to be a difficult task): Tap on Menu and select Contact us. Since it is a cloud based device, it is probably either an app issue or backend issue. I hope you are able to get it resolved.
Have you onboarded it using QR codes in the past? I see the device has been around since 2018 and QR codes being shoved in our faces even though they are completely irrelevant to the device being installed is a comparatively recent thing in the app. I guess it could be an indication of crossed wires somewhere but I would have thought if electing not to use the QR code and choosing the device from the list brings up the correct setup app it should be a reasonably positive sign.
The devices seem to be in the catalogue for around 240 countries, though the setup app only seems to be supported in 40. Then again I don’t really know what the catalogue is telling me. It does rather suggest it is a supported device though.
Looks like it is a Wi-Fi device installed like Samsung appliances are using OCF. That right?
I can’t remember for sure how exactly I on boarded these the first time, but it was unremarkable and without problem. I do remember using the QR codes to onboard most of my smartthings devices, so it’s likely I did for these vision sensors too. I’ve certainly never had to go through and manually enter a serial number which is what the QR code is supposed to do.
I’ve had some preliminary generic advice from SmartThings support team to clear the app data on my phone etc, didn’t fix the problem. Interesting thing though, I thought I would try the SmartThings app on my iPad and it goes through the onboarding process as expected and detects the vision sensor correctly when scanning the QR code, it inevitably fails registering to my account as usual though. Who would have thought the SmartThings app would be buggy on an Samsung phone, but work properly on an apple device, go figure. And it turns out it is giving me the 15-300 error code as was mentioned in that other thread by someone else. They have clearly not sorted his out. I don’t understand why I’m experiencing this now when I haven’t before.
tagging @nayelyz @Luis_Humberto_Medina to see if they can assist in any way
Also, use the Contact us in the app to report the issue and send logs
Thanks,
I have sent further error reports via the Samsung members app, I didn’t have that installed on my galaxy previously as I don’t like app bloat, seems to have sent the logs through properly this time though and now it’s crickets, no email within a week and no phone call as promised by the technical assistant over chat. I don’t think they care.
Hi,
Same here with GP-U999GTEEA
Im sure i’ve added this same device one year ago using QR scanning,
I didnt use it for a while. When needed to use it, it stayed offline, smarrthings app adviced me to delete and add again, but not able to add it again.
Yeah this is very frustrating. I’ve been back and forth with Samsung support and they keep giving me the same useless generic advice to power cycle the device and try again, and change my wifi settings, all of which doesn’t resolve this. I have explained to them that the device does indeed connect to my wifi/local network but then always fails to register to my SmartThings account. I have one working of the two I set up ages ago, but can’t get this third one to set up to to replace one that’s stuck in a boot loop. It’s pretty frustrating there isn’t a tool to flash firmware to this things to fix mine and prevent irresponsible ewaste.
@nayelyz we could really use your help getting someone technical to look at the cloud side of these devices, I’m suspicious something has gone wrong since all the changes to edge drivers etc. It would be a shame for these great sensors to go to waste.
I’ve had more feedback from Samsung support asking me to send through log data from the smartthings app. I’ve already done this, but I’ll do it again. If you’re having the same issues, maybe you could send them your log data and report the issue also through the smartthings app. We might finally get an answer if we are lucky.
@slgalvin Now it’s working please check and let us know
You got this to set up properly and add to your account? I attempted another setup 2 days ago and noticed the android app was working properly to identify the vision sensor with the QR code and not mistake it as the skytag suitcase, however it still failed to register the device to my smartthings account. I’ll have another try tonight though.
Well I’ve had multiple attempts to get it working and still no luck. The android app correctly identifies the vision sensor via the QR code now and connects it to my home network but fails to register it to my SmartThings account. I tried it with my iPad and the iOS app correctly identifies the vision sensor with the QR code but then the app crashes and exits and I can’t get further than that. This is total BS.
@nayelyz @Luis_Humberto_Medina could I please get your help with this. It’s two months on and I’ve received nil actual help or resolution from anyone despite multiple log reports submitted and support requests. I would really like to get this working.
Could you please try to add it to different home/user. I should mention that have different users accounts(Homes).
First time it worked for me ,it was not in the account it used to be !
@Tarikbel1 I did try with a completely new account I set up last month and still the same issue, that was before the Smartthings app correctly identified the vision sensor though, I’ll try again in the coming days with that second account when I have some spare time. Out of curiosity what country are you setting this up in? I’m in Australia where these were officially sold, so I shouldn’t be hitting any snags. But I’m just considering if there is a specific issue with my location.
@slgalvin my location is Denmark(Eu).
In case you want an idea about the version of smartthings:
Will be waiting for your test using different user account.
No luck using a different user account.
I took the risk on factory resetting the one vision sensor I have that’s still working and paired to my account. After also deleting it from my account I tried setting it up and it worked straight away no problems. I would say this working one has a newer firmware on it since it’s been operating fine for over a year. The other sensor I’m trying to setup is brand new and never used before so will have the factory installed firmware version. I wonder if there is a tool to update firmware on these over USB with a PC. Would be good since this whole issue came about when my other vision sensor that had also been working fine for over a year randomly got stuck in a boot loop and unresponsive to factory resets
You have 3 vision sensors
1- updated and works fine
2- new one never paired before and still not pairing
3- used for one year and then it get offline. While tring to add it again ,it was showing suitcase. But now the hard reset is not working
Please correct me if I’m wrong
