SmartThings Q3 2025 Updates: New Features and Ecosystem Growth

The Innovation Report: Your Quarterly SmartThings Update Newsletter

Our Q3 2025 update brings new offerings for SmartThings users and upgraded tools for partners and developers, including a major update to Analytics.

We’re excited to see our Works with SmartThings ecosystem continue to grow with more certified partners and devices.

Thank you being in our community—here’s the latest from SmartThings!

SmartThings Features and Updates

Q3 was an exciting quarter for us with new product launches and a variety of SmartThings app updates, including:

  • The Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2: The Smart Home Hub 2 is available for purchase on Samsung.com. This next-generation hub, supporting Matter, Thread, and Zigbee, has 70% faster CPU performance for reduced latency, and double the RAM capacity of the Aeotec Smart Home Hub to support more devices. It also has a smaller form factor with a wall-mount option and USB-C power.
  • Personalized Experiences: SmartThings now offers expanded routine recommendations based on a user’s Home Profile survey results, helping deliver a tailored experience for each user.
  • Coffee Makers: Users can now add coffee makers to routines in the SmartThings app.
  • iOS Updates: Quick Remote has expanded with five additional device types, including air conditioner, robot vacuum, air purifier, air dehumidifier, and wine cooler.

Hub Updates

We’ve rolled out many new Hub updates as well, including:

  • Thread Enhancements: Hubs have been upgraded to Thread 1.4 with support for Credential Sharing, TREL (Thread Radio Encapsulation Link) for better connectivity (NAT 64) across IP networks. Users can now also unify the Hub’s Thread network with nearby Thread networks directly from the SmartThings app (see more below).
  • Zigbee Improvements: There is now reduced “popcorning” when controlling multi-gang switches and outlets with local rules.
  • Expanded Matter Support: Hubs now support flow sensors and HRAP (Home Routers and Access Points) device types, including Network Infrastructure Managers and Thread Border Routers.

Matter Updates

  • With 2-way Thread network unification, SmartThings becomes the first major platform enabling Border routers from different ecosystems to join our Thread network, or vice versa. This enhancement makes setup easier, extends coverage, and delivers the performance users expect.
  • We are proud of our partnership with the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). See what they had to say about SmartThings in their latest success story.

Developer Center Updates

  • Test Suite for Hub Connected Devices: Thank you to our partners, Eve, Hue, Meross, and Eufy, who have used our latest self-testing options in Test Suite for easy and free certification. Learn more via our recent LinkedIn post or developer documentation.
  • New Exclusive Analytics: We’ve expanded SmartThings Analytics with powerful new insights available to Works with SmartThings partners. Explore advanced product usage analytics to see which product types are most often used with yours in routines, plus new category filters, flexible time-series views, and a refreshed UI, making it easier than ever to understand how customers engage with your products. Learn more here!
  • Automatic Onboarding: Profile translations in 75 languages are here—at the tap of a button, we’ll translate, allowing you to speed up your certification and ensure global users can set up devices in their preferred language.
  • Certification by Similarity: Certify your portfolio of products with Product Cloning and Certification by Similarity (CbS).

Expanded WWST Ecosystem
Check out what some of our partners were up to in Q3 2025!

  • Level Home certified four new Matter-compatible locks, making it easy for users to connect secure door lock solutions.

Unfortunately, device support is limited to 300 devices. Nowadays, many homes have more devices than that limit.

Today I have almost 400 devices, but I need to manage them in two houses, which is very inconvenient. We urgently need this limit increased.

Really! You want to highlight and rub this in after having dropped Zwave from the gen3 hub? Atleast support the aeotec Zwave usb stick with the hub. You always have the Zwave stack built in.

For many of us, this is NOT an “exciting” announcement. Yes, the new hub sounds lovely. You missed the boat by not including built-in Z-Wave support. As many have pointed out elsewhere on the forum (and @RBoy expresses so well, above) it would be a big win for Samsung to add support for the Aeotec (and other) USB Z-Wave sticks. Please reconsider this, for the existing user base that is strongly invested in Z-Wave devices!

Well,I’m not replacing all my zwave decices…mostly wall switches with zigbee just to upgrade to a new hub….not happening

You don’t have to replace your Z-Wave devices with Zigbee ones - you can simply switch to Thread devices instead! Edit: :innocent:

My point is that I am not switching anything

I’m in a similar boat. if my v2 hub ever dies it’ll be the end of SmartThings as a hub and moving to a HA/Habitat setup that is committed to supporting both zwave and Zigbee.

I want to advocate and recommend friends and family to use SmartThings, but damn are y’all making it hard
