Smart Things/ Samsung will face a lawsuit soon

With this outage I was unable to turn lights off. I have aeon minis in locations I can’t get to turn off manually. Stupid on my part I suppose. Anyways, point of this post is to simply ask: I thought version 2 allowed lights to turn on and off locally. Maybe I misunderstand what local is (minus the 1000 post discussing it). Shouldn’t we be able to control a simple z-wave light without the internet? Everyone is up in arms with ST but what happens when a storm brings down the Internet or an issue with the ISP? Just curious.

When the internet goes down every.other device comes back up when the internet comes back. I Even rebooted my router and everything else came back.up including my video cameras. Just this crap about having to manually power cycle the hub is unaceptable. I have never had to.manually power cycle my hue hub or video cameras, Or my harmony hub, or my Yamaha receivers or my echos. They need to tell.me how to reboot the hub without flying up.

Except it’s not always required. Usually they just come back online automatically.

Yes, my locally processed automations worked fine during the outage, but none of my cloud based automations worked. The trick to have local processing, is first you need a v2, second you need zigbee or zwave devices using SmartThings official device type and third, the automation must be done using Smart Lighting app. If the 3 are met and automation doesn’t work, then support must be contacted.

I can Vpn in to the router and ping the hub … the needs to be a way to force a reboot.

From IDE? Works like pushing the button on the hub…

Most likely the press is going to start getting more specific. There aren’t any real good consumer alternatives so a lot of people have cut them slack. I personally like my ST, but the lack of stability makes no sense to me. Samsung could hire a few infrastructure people from the finance industry in a heartbeat…

The forum traffic indicates the ST the enthusiasts are jumping ship for OpenHAB due to similaries in architecture.

Hey. When you reset your hub did it connect? I’ve reset twice now and still shows offline. However I didn’t see any feedback (lights, flash, etc) when I pushed the recessed button. Did you hold it down? There should be some noticeable feedback that it reset?

Nope tried reboot from ide… but not working . even though the hub.is up the back end is not talking to it.

I’m still.hopeful it will come up on its own as I just manually rebooted the hub that is local by removing batteries and power and it still is not connecting… ie solid blue light.

as above- i’m squeamish about pressing any recessed button. The first time i must have been too quick and nothing happened. So i pressed and held a little longer, and said a prayer that i wasn’t resetting the thing, and the lights flashed and then i think they went red and so i walked back upstairs. a couple minutes later i got the phone notification that it was back online.

So i think you need to be a little longer than momentary on the button, but dont get crazy, who knows what might happen if it’s too long…

Honestly, the press doesn’t want to report on the true state of Home Automation because unreliability and security flaws are the general opinion of many consumers. So coming out and proving a point that everyone already believes in, doesn’t appeal to the readers of any publication. Although, some journalists have ventured to write about the novelty factor of today’s smart home products, they mainly target the leading products, and unfortunately ST is not one of them…

Hey I know your pretty active on the forums and I know the answer to this is probably yes but do you have this posted anywhere as I think it’s extremely beneficial for anyone interested in it (even though it might seem self-explanatory) haha!

Yea I gotta agree with @SBDOBRESCU, it might be pointless if they even publish anything as readers might just be like…“Oh another failure in HA, what else is new!” so yea!

@Benji it looks like your trolling in your last few posts, can you please stop that even though some of the gifs are funny! Just not right as clearly the guy is frustrated minus what your opinions about his situation are!

My GF did the reset for me, she held it for like a second and didn’t do anything else.

It reboots but it takes a second and the LEDs will do different things while it does, just need to leave it alone.

The hub came back online just fine.

If you come here, ask a question or ask for help nicely, people will be very forthcoming. If you turn up throwing your toys out of the pram, don’t expect people to respond well.

What about the users who bought into SmartThings promise to monitor remote locations? Will ST pay their air fare to travel to 5000 miles to reset their hub?

WTF is your problem? @Lgkahn stated that if his hub doesn’t come back online he will be sueing for lost work and airfare and you go ahead and troll him with stupid unnecessary gifs (even if funny or not) of pretending to sit down and watch a show unfold of him attempting to do that!

What I’m going to say back to you is…“If you come here and start trolling then expect people to call you out on it!”

The lawsuit thing isn’t going to happen, but the unreliable performance and mediocre app are killing things. I know I can’t recommend it to anyone right now.

That’s the million dollar question that @Lgkahn may have a real answer soon…
