Ring - Streaming live video from Ring camera to custom android application

Hello SmartThings developers,

Scenario – creating a client application where user signs in using SmartThings account (I am aware of OAuth – In App) and can view live feed of the security camera on motion detection. What I need from the security camera capabilities -

  1. Notify when motion is detected
  2. Provide live streaming (continuously for some time)

I am wondering for the security camera - Ring flood light cam wired plus

Is the above scenario possible using API / sdk for mentioned device? Are there other devices (security cams) which have this capability ( through SmartThings API / sdks )?

It is possible to get the motion event because you can subscribe to that capability/device according to this document: Subscriptions | Developer Documentation | SmartThings
But, let me ask the engineering team about the Camera’s live stream.

ok, @Krushnali_Tiwari, following up:

The engineering team mentioned that to get the live stream you need to see the option offered by the manufacturer, in this case, Ring as we’re not the original source/owner of this information.
Also, it’s important to note that this would be a security issue since the users are authorizing access to Smartthings when they link their accounts, not to third parties which would be your case.

The supported cameras depend on the integration’s developer. If you have this device already installed with Ring but doesn’t appear when you add this integration to SmartThings it means it’s not supported.

I was wondering if i can see live stream for Ring camera (say Ring flood light cam wired plus) on SmartThings app?

Nayelyz, i also connected with Ring community they say, “Ring does not officially support SmartThings integrations” (a statement by Jason_Ring). This is little unclear when Ring devices are numerous on SmartThings app.

if i go with SmartThings cam (GP-U999COVLBDA) do you think 1. motion detection and 2. livestream can be handled?

Also i need to know this, SmartThings cam needs SmartThings hub?

Based on your recent posts, you are basically looking for product recommendations.

The Aeotec Cam 360 is very well integrated in SmartThings and its Home Monitor, has motion and sound detection, live stream, recording, two-way audio.

I had to disable the motion detector in STHM, because the motion detection sensitivity isn’t configurable. The last time the alarm went off, the camera recorded a clip of a huge (actually tiny) spider.

My Tapo C225 (SmartThings-smartthings-c2c-tplink-camera-motion) is almost perfect when it comes to event detection but the promised ST integration never happened. You can see the stream and it provides motion detection events, but that’s it.
