Region Shut Down Email?

Just received the email below. Trial? I didn’t sign up for any trial. What’s with the shutting down the region part? Im in NA, not Singapore, I believe it doesn’t affect me. But worried my hub is going to get wiped for some random reason. Did anyone else get this email?

Thank you for your participation in the Samsung SmartThings trial. We gathered some valuable data and appreciate your help.

We are now moving to shut down SmartThings cloud in this region and we wanted to give you notice that any data (accounts, locations, hubs, etc.) you have in this region will be going away shortly. Please take a moment to review any data you have in this environment so you can save it if desired. Going forward, if you would like to reclaim your hub in our North American or European regions, please contact our support team (support@smartthings.com) to get claim codes configured in those regions once you have deleted your location in the Singapore region.

I’d highly recommend emailing support@smartthings.com if I were you, just to make sure you’re not impacted.

Tagging @aaron I wonder if this has anything to do with the people who are being forced to reenter their hub codes this week?

I’m more concerned that this hints SmartThings is shrinking their international expansion!

While they may have expanded a little too quickly… Well… This is just confusing.

If it was a true beta, then I don’t think it means anything one way or the other as far as expansion plans. Most big companies do betas considerably ahead of the time when they do a full release into a new international region.

Maybe, but I haven’t had any issues with the app (iOS). Just sent support an email.

Yes. We are looking into why the list was incorrectly generated but our presence in Singapore was purely a BETA. There was always a high likelihood this region would be shutdown. It was baked into the plan.

If you live in the United States or the UK and you get this email, please disregard it. Sorry for any confusion.

Closing the loop… this is directly related to Tim’s comment re: Beta testing in Asia. It is unrelated to the Welcome Code issue (which should now be resolved)

so now one has to ask: what’s the reason for discontinuing the Singapore beta?

The infrastructure for Singapore was related to a targeted trial with a third party. That trial ended several weeks ago, so we’re shutting down some of the technology that was used to support the trial.

I hope the 3rd party is not related to the direct SmartThings user in Singapore, I’m connected to the UK server and I get my hub from UK
