Please help! Can't connect Samsung TV ks8000 to SmartThings hub

I’m going crazy. Followed all the instructions. Everything looks like it should work. But the TV won’t turn ON! Off it has no problem with. But commands to turn it on from ST do nothing. Is there a setting I’m missing?

Is the TV connected via ethernet or Wi-Fi?

WiFi. I did find a thread on another automation site that says the ks8000 has WOL. And there is a wifi MAC address. I just have no idea how to invoke this via ST.

I tried this but it didn’t work. Every time I try to connect it just keeps having the allow screen pop up on the T.V. but it never gets added into Smartthings. I also tried unplugging the T.V. for 30 sec and re plugged it in. Still the same problem. Maybe I’ll call Samsung to see if they can fix it on their end somehow.

same problem here. Have 3 of them, 2 worked just fine, 3rd one I just can’t get it working. tried rebooting etc, no luck

I also can’t connect. I just bought a un65mu800d.

Tried unplugging.
Adding thing from market place.
Connected to lan, same network
Tv signed in to Samsung account smartthings uses.

For me tv is never discovered. Just searched and searches…

Tried unplugging tv during search as well…
Frustrating as this is a 2017 model and thought I wouldn’t have a problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Elijah

What is your TV’s name?

try removing all special characters and only keep A-Z and spaces. I had a “&” and tried to connect for 3months without success until I finally removed the “&” in the name

I don’t think it has one… I didn’t give it one. I’ll check settings.

Thanks for the reply

I have a UN55KS8500 Mine was working for over a year. Stopped working a few nights ago. Still showed up as a thing but couldn’t do anything! Unplugged TV, reset modem, router and hub. Removed tv as thing and now it won’t show up when trying to discover it in the app. Not sure what the hell is going on with it. Worked flawlessly and now, nothing. Any thoughts?

I did the same thing, nothing worked. I believe Samsung software update 1203 broke the integration. I have a support ticket in with ST and a support request into Samsung. I also started having connection problems with HDMI1 on the TV also after the update.

Have noticed this connection issue yesterday since 1203 update, since this seems to be a separate issue, I’ve created a new thread Unable to connect to KS8000

Did you ever find a solution? I’m having the same issues after the 1203 update, smartthings can’t find my TV and no signal on HDMI 1 (which only works temporarily if I unplug and replug the TV).

Check the thread right above that jcextreme started. I posted the email Samsung sent for trouble shooting the HDMI. They were no help with ST integration. I have some time now. I am going to do the factory reset. Will let you know the results on the other thread.

Having the same problem - mine worked great for months and months, and the last couple weeks has been unresponsive to SmartThings! It took me tons of work just to remove the zombie device, now I can’t re-add it no matter what I try.

The last TV firmware broke the integration. Support says they are working on it but I am not holding my breath as this integration was for a small subset of Samsung TVs only produced for model year 2016. There a bigger fish to fry unfortunately.

Same issue here. After the update my TV was actually reporting an all zero MAC address and couldn’t connect to any network. Reset to factory defaults got it back online, but smartthings has been broken ever since. I DM’d Samsung support on twitter and received the “we’re looking into it response”.

I’ll add myself to the “it worked great and now it doesn’t work at all” group. Maybe someone from the SmartThings team needs to loan a hub to the fellows over in the TV firmware group. And maybe get them to add a step to the test procedures to make sure it works.

I have been winding myself up trying to remove and reconnect the TV with no success and it turned out that the recent update messed up once again…

I knew I should have check here first instead of wasting two hour resetting connections and tv etc thinking I did something to it by accident…

What a waste of time!!

I am glad that I found this… I have had no TV to ST integration for about a month… Hopefully they will do an update but I am not holding my breath. My Samsung dryer has been calling itself a washer for months… LOL. Samsung has great products but the worst integration I have ever seen

Same problem here. Tried resetting the TV to no avail. Will open a ticket with smartthings support.
