Please help! Can't connect Samsung TV ks8000 to SmartThings hub

Read the entire thread, we KNOW it’s firmware related. Samsung made a change to the authentication protocol on TV firmwares which ST doesn’t support. And Samsung won’t allow a rollback of the TV firmware.

Consider doing what I did, purchase a harmony hub for the TV and swear to never buy another Samsung product. It’s the only way to rid yourself of the frustration. In fact, I’m having fun creating scenes for other ir devices in my living room that otherwise could not be controlled through smartthings. Like my sound bar or infrared fireplace.

The harmony also controls my cheap ir controlled led strips from Amazon. I use them for tv backlighting. Only $20 and it looks great and has different colors like red for Netflix etc.

Nice, yeah my wife loves that its red for netflix, blue for kodi and green for emby.

If you use KukuHarmony’s app you can control every device individually without using a harmony activity. Handy if you are controlling several IR lights

Harmony actually had the ir codes for this obscure electric fireplace/TV stand I have. Needless to say I can now control it via smartthings and Alexa. I ordered another harmony hub for my bedroom where I have an eden pure heater, TV, roku and a ir controlled a/c unit.

New to this forum. I have bought myself a Samsung Soundbar - HW-N850 that I did link to my SmartThings app. No problem at all linking that one. My KS8005 TV However cannot be found. The app says “Make sure your phone and TV are connected to the same WiFi-network”. They are! But nothing happends.
I have tried to log in and out from Samsung account on TV and on SmartThings, I have unplugged power to TV 30s etc. The TV cannot be found. (I have had it connected before).

Any ideas? FW 1231

hmm, edit, I dont have a “hub”? But I did not need a hub before to be connected with my TV. Is a hub required? The soundbar doesnt need the hub…

I also found the solution is to use a Harmony hub, and Alexia with my Samsung TV and smart things app. I am able to turn the TV on with Alexia voice commands. Using the favorite channels in the Harmony hub I can tell Alexia not only to turn the TV on, but tell Alexia which channel to start on. For example, " Alexia, turn on ESPN". Alexia using Harmony hub turns on the TV and changes the channel to ESPN.

Wow. This thread is crazy. This is exactly why I’m done with Samsung.

Hi Neil_Oakley,

Currently, I have the same issue.
Just last week, I installed smartthings on my phone, logging-in and my 49ku6100 already there. Everythings is ok (turing off, volume up and down,…) excepted turning the tv on. I could link to google home also.
So, I tried remove the tv and added again with hope that I could turn it on. However, the smartthings couldnot find/see it again.
If you have any solution for this, please share to me.

Thank you very much

Unfortunately not. I gave up as it was clear Samsung/SmartThings didn’t want to take ownership for their mistake or try to rectify it.

Just noting that I too am a victim of Samsung’s removal of the UN55KS8000 / UN55KS800D (Costco version) and similar 2016 models from being connectable to SmartThings via their new app.
