RE: Smartthings Hub solid green after factory reset & release from Samsung
I have 2 locations configured with Smartthings since 2017 and everything was working relatively fine until my wireless hub STH-ETH-300 at location 1 started failing and eventually not connecting to any devices. Rather than buying a new hub, I decided to do away with my small deployment location 2 and move my wired STH-ETH-200 to my location 1. However, I have been unsuccessful even after: 1) factory reset, uninstall/reinstall app, trying to add the hub to a new location, double-checking and restarting my wifi, and spending over a month working with Samsung support. I exchanged over a dozen messages with them and they have been unable to resolve the issue and stopped responding to my error reports all together. They say that they have released the hub so it is no longer being āclaimedā. I have given them full access to my data and sent them screen capture of the steps I take. Ultimately, I continue to get the solid green light on the hub and it fails to get added. I really donāt want to buy a new hub and working around its lack of support for ZWave. So Iād really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have on how to get my STH-ETH-200 working?
On a related note, based on my poor experience with failed 300 and inability to add the 200 (as well as issues with my Samsung phone and refrigerator), I am starting to believe Samsung isnāt the quality company they used to be and perhaps it is time to look at alternative solutions. Who is happy with their non-Samsung solutions? I know itāll be a lot of work switching over 40 devices over, but as it stands today, they are all useless
PS If anyone from Samsung is reading this, I am very disappointed in the quality of your original response and eventual lack of response to Chat ID#303535466!
My understanding of the V2 hub is that it basically looks after itself connecting to the backend. If it flashes green and blue then it is connected but hasnāt been āclaimedā, and if it is solid green then it has been claimed and is operational.
For a V2, adding the hub to a Location is really just the process of claiming a particular hub. I donāt think the hub even needs to be connected at this point. The āWelcome codeā is effectively the serial number in a more obscure form.
I find it odd that Support say they have removed the claim on the hub and yet it has a solid green LED that suggests otherwise.
What happens when you attempt to add the hub in the mobile app?
I assume the āWelcome codeā is the correct one for the hub.
Thank you all for your responses. I am not certain if my post here had an impact or not but Samsung finally responded this morning indicating āā¦This may be due to multiple Samsung accounts being used or another user claiming the hub, which is causing a mismatch.ā I am not sure how this can occur, but I am going to follow up with them and see if we can solve the problem. Once resolved, Iāll post something here in case someone else can benefit from the solution.
Thank you so much! I have tried the steps exactly as you listed but I still get a solid green after the steps instead of the alternating green and red. When attempting to add the hub with a green light, I get āThere was a problem connecting to the hub. Check your network connection and try again.ā On the Advanced Web App, I do not see the hub.
Thank you all for your replies and help. I followed all your suggestions to no avail. Samsung was extremely unhelpful. After 6 weeks of going back and forth, Samsung support finally said the hub is broken. Mind you, this hub was functioning just fine at my second location and very unlikely it could have broken during transportation from location 1 to location 2. So I decided to go with the suggestions of some of you and switched to Hubitat. It took me a while to get everything working but I finally have all devices added and now working on adding automations. So far, my only issue with Hubitat has been that after a failed ZWave device inclusion, ZWave devices stop communicating until a system reboot.
My final comment to this thread: as a former Samsung fan, my recent experiences with Samsung hardware over the past 5 years including multiple phone issues (luckily under warranty) and refrigerator issues, I will be thinking twice in the future before purchasing any Samsung hardware. Thanks again everyone!
