Great tip! Scored 3 dimmers @ $21, 5 switches @ $19, and 1 outdoor module @ $21. My WalMart also had GE Motion Sensors, Enbrighten bulbs, and Plug modules. I bought everything out except the motion sensors, bulbs, and a couple outdoor & plug modules. Scored 9 devices total! Thank you for posting!
Keep watching your stores - I bought out the two stores that had them locally yesterday, and today one more store dropped the price so I cleared that out too. (Not for resale; I’m legitimately trying to replace most of my dumb switches).
Prices are actively dropping for stores that are still at $30.
Two days ago I found the same deal at my local Walmart by visiting the electronics clearance area (which I always do whenever I’m there). Then, yesterday, at a larger store (next town over), I checked my Walmart app and they had the same deal, but had more of a selection. This store did not have them on display and were hiding in the back. So, I asked if he’d bring them all out. He did. I bought about half of what they had in stock. I picked up 3 switches and 2 dimmers ($19 & $21 each respectively), plus a motion sensor and a outdoor plug. 3 Days ago I bought 2 dimmers and 1 switch for $35 and $30 respectively at my local store and thought that was a good deal. This won’t last long if there’s anyone else like me out there. Now, to figure out where I’m going to use them all…
2 of my Local Walmarts, according to the script posted above, says they have them, but I can’t find them in either store. I have about 8 of the dimmers sitting in the box that I replace with the new 14k series but this is too good to pass up. Going to hook a relative up or something.
You have to ask - a lot of stores don’t keep clearance items on the shelf. Find someone in electronics and ask them to help you find the item - tell them you have the UPC (brickseek has it) and they can look it up. Usually they’re in a “recently pulled” pile in the back.
I have to say I’m not completely thrilled by the dimmers; they don’t have any adjustment options, so they aren’t nearly as smooth as my old non-smart dimmers I’ve been replacing (they all had adjustment knobs/sliders inside). These are also way, way more picky with bulbs. So far I’m 0/3 on bulbs that don’t flicker at low levels, but I’ll keep trying different brands until I find one that works well.
I ended up getting some about 30 miles up the road. These dimmers, switches and fan controllers have been rock solid for me. I have my entire house wired with them and I have ALOT of switches! The difference has been in the LED Bulbs. Some flicker, some don’t.
Thanks for the heads up! I needed the outdoor plug in model, GE 12720. Home Depot had it for $44 so I was about to get one on eBay for $27. Brickseek showed it was one of the clearance items for $21 and one of the Walmarts close by had 6. Grabbed two of them.
Thanks for letting us know the price dropped. I was able to get several wall switches, a dimmer and a motion sensor. The motion sensor is nice with USB power option and adjustable sensitivity, but it keeps sensing motion every 11 minutes on the lowest sensitivity.
On the topic of being cheap and these switches - I tested both the 40 and 60 watt Lowes (utilitech) bottom of the line dimmable bulbs in fixtures of 2-6 each, and they really, really don’t play well with these dimmers. The good news is that Home Depot bulbs (Ecosmart) work beautifully. If you’re looking for cheap standard LED bulbs to use with these dimmers, I’d go that route.
(note that I’m referring to current bulbs on the shelf today, no idea when it comes to older units).
Went back to local Wal-Mart and talked with manager, they don’t have a close out section, and checked in back, no switches. I walked the store, and confirmed no close out just to be sure. So no not for me.
I went to my local Walmart this morning. Walked to the electronics section, an employee walked up and asked if I needed assistance. I showed her a printout of the item I was looking for, she looked it up on her mobile device. she asked how many I wanted and said she would go get them. A few minutes she returned with them in hand.
The walmart i went to supervisor (yello vest) said they didnt have a way to see current/real-time store inventory lol, circa 1950. Brickseek shows 7 dimmers and 5 switches.
So no luck, found the electronics clearance all they had tvs. Closeout area was going to be attempt-round three but one of the post above said no such section…oh well ymmv good deal to the lucky folks
Not sure if this is a factor but the Walmart i went to today is a new store. I didn’t even know about it until I saw it’s location in brickseek. Also, it is the first time I have ever witnessed an associate with a mobile device that can check on the status/info of items. Maybe it will be phased in with older stores over time.
I must say the service was totally different at this location. 4 associates greeted me with hello as I was walking through. 2 associates approached and asked if I needed assistance as I entered the electronics section. The aisles in the store were 10 feet wide. Very different from the older store I had visited previously.
The hunt is over. In 2 days 6 wal marts and 8 switches. Enough to do all my fans, I have traditional toggles and started switching them out so between the toggles for the lights and paddles for the fans I will almost be done with switches.
Thanks for the post.
