DISCUSS Deals/Sales/Coupons/Pricing HERE (post deals in the other thread)

I have no doubt that this is true, but there is more Chance of lag with a Cloud to Cloud connection, more chance for failure. That’s all I meant.

This is about the Iris contact sensors that so many of us ordered from the Lowe’s NY deal. I got eight, in three shipments from three sources. No problem, except the adhesive included. This is not earth shattering, but a pain nonetheless. Five of the eight came without double-sided tape, but with a funny red single-sided 3M red tape that, as far as I can tell, is worthless for this application. Am I the only one, or just the only one anal enough to complain?

The red tape is dbl sided. sticks better and thinner.

Mine came with the 3M foam tape. I matched the logos to this stuff on Amazon in case I start moving sensors around and I don’t want to drill into things. http://www.amazon.com/3M-4941-Double-Sided-Acrylic-Yards/dp/B004V40IUS?ie=UTF8&colid=85OFFHZ8KB1L&coliid=I2WMLXB7MCH8LQ&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl

The newer Iris sensors are coming with this red tape (the older ones had a different tape). It seems OK to me, but it is a PITA to get the backing off.

Anyone see any good deals on the Aeon DSC06106 recently? I supposed I could go with the buy two, get one free Iris smart plugs, but I really like the Aeon units and they seem to go on sale periodically even cheaper (on a per unit basis) than the buy two, get one free Lowes deal. Plus I know the Aeon is compatible with multiple platforms and I’m not sure about the Iris smart plug - this might be handy should I decide to look at other options unless ST improves.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but how do I use single-sided tape to mount the contact?

The Aeon will only repeat zwave. The Iris will repeat both zwave and Zigbee (it actually pairs as two different devices to both Iris and SmartThings).

I doubt if you’ll get the dual function out of it with any controller (other than Iris, of course) that doesn’t allow for custom device handlers.

As I understand it, it’s the zigbee piece that actually controls the pocket socket, the zwave is just a repeater. If that’s true, then the iris should pair as a repeater to most zwave controllers, but you won’t have control of the pocket socket itself.

It really is two sided. Like @Brad_Langhorst said, it is really a PITA to get the backing off – so hard that in fact I first thought it was one-sided, too

You can see this thread for other mounting options:

No, it is double-sided as others have said. It is just a big pain to get the backing off but if you work at it, it does come off.

Thanks JD. Yeah, I’m not as concerned with the repeater functionality at this stage; I’m more concerned with compatibility with other platforms should I move on from ST and the outlet control is the thing I’d want to control with another platform.

I concur with everybody else the red is in fact double sided, just a royal PIA to get the backing off of it

You just need patience and try to get one corner to separate so you can get your nail to separate. I have not found an easy way, but I use all the time

Thanks for all the responses to my silly red tape question. I’ll try again. In the meantime, I picked up some quakehold wax and it’s doing pretty well in early tests as an alternative.

Just got a shipping notice from Lowes that the 2nd of 2 Gardenspot minis. orders. If they still owe you some maybe they’ll be there soon.

2 words. X-acto knife.

Does anyone know if this can be connected to and used with SmartThings yet?
I know there’s a thread where they’re working on the single, but what about this 12 zone one?

I looked into it a while ago and it doesn’t appear to.
