Cheapest and Best Z-Wave Smart Locks

We get a lot of emails every week asking about where folks can buy the cheapest z-wave Smart Locks and which are the best z-wave Smart Locks. Will try to keep this updated to reflect the latest prices/deals and newer locks on the market.

BEST Z-Wave Smart Locks

There’s no one answer, each brand has it’s pro’s and con’s and each model within the brand have their pro’s the con’s. The best locks for you depends on what features you want from your locks. There are some locks which have issues such as firmware bugs, design restrictions, known defects etc. I would highly recommend reading these posts before you decide on what’s the best lock for you:

  1. See the table in this post to compare features for popular lock brands/models
Some features are unique to specific locks, deep green means it’s a best in class feature, green means it has an upper hand, red means it’s restriction or not available. See the NOTES section at the bottom of that post
  2. This post which talks about limitations of specific locks/models
  3. If you are concerned about battery life and it’s impact on lock operations read this post

Personally - having worked with 50+ lock brands/models and thousands of locks across the globe over the past decade, we’ve found that, in the z-wave category, Yale locks (YRD and YRL series with the Z-Wave Plus module) tend to have the fewest issues with reliable battery management.

What about mexico??? I need a lock to fit this door…

Leave your key in the lock and then mount the August Pro on the key. Now you can open / close the lock remotely. Add a keypad to use codes to manage the lock.

I need to use codes, for AirBNB guests.

Sorry, overlooked your keypad comment.

Although, the existing lock is a two-step lock, the lock needs a quarter key turn to open door, and then released so that it latches when closed, and a full turn to lock all the deadbolts for more secure lock at night. I don’t think August will do this.

Highlighting this deal, it’s a steal - $46 39 for Yale Deadbolt with Z-Wave, get it while it lasts.
