Timeout happens from time to time. Gonna add a try/catch this weekend to properly handle it.
Why did I immediately think of the weather app on my old HTC phone that would have a windshield wiper cleaning the raindrops off the phone screen if it was raining out ?
OK…I know this may be too obvious, but I’m going for the low-hanging fruit first…
Have you checked to see how good your WiFi signal strength is in the location where you put the weather station?
With many devices, even if there is coverage, if it’s below a certain threshold, it won’t even use it.
Signal strength is good. 4 bars on my phone.
I did a hard reset today and reconnected it to my wifi and am still getting the same thing. It needs t obe moved from its current location to a more permanent location, due to the lack of sun for the solar panel, so I may bring it inside to mess with, until it warms up. Its ~15 without windchill and probably below zero with.
if it’s inside, does it connect properly?
BTW, as for outside temps, wind chill is not relevant for objects like this. wind chill is only relevant for things like human skin, etc, because it’s about the moisture being swept away from the skin by the wind.
Exactly why I want to bring it inside to troubleshoot. Its friggin cold out!
For those of you who have installed one on the roof or siding, any tricks or tips? Expecting my delivery this week and trying to plan ahead.
@cdmobile I see you moved yours, so you have double the experience.
It comes with a mount, the mount is really for the solar panels where you can either screw it into a flat surface or you can also clamp the mount on a railing of some sort, but you’re limited by thickness. And then the camera would sit on the mount with a whole pole type thing.
So Ive removed the device from my account, and now I cant get it re-added…SMH.
Ive reset the device several times and nothing is getting it connected back to my network. Even sitting the device 2 feet from my wifi router. FAIL.
Try using a different device if you haven’t tried that. If you are using your phone try using a tablet or another phone if you have one available. I have read other people having success doing that…no idea why.
Same here. Here’s my post from above…
Thanks. I will do this today for sure, and let you know what comes of it…
I was able to get it re-added to my network, but its still showing offline.
Using an iPad, the device connected the very first try.
@Yongfeng_Zhang, thoughts??
I’ve updated the device type to support multiple BloomSkys if you have more than one the current device type gets confused and will display both readings for all.
Wow, thanks to the great community and @tslagle13 for the device type and scheduler. Got my free BloomSky this week and in the course of only about an hour got it paired to my guest wifi network and installed outside on the roof.
One thing that I’ve seen mentioned briefly is that the BloomSky device also works with weather underground, and I have also gotten it providing data to my “Personal Weatherstation” including uploading the sky camera shots to the WU webcam feature.
Basically, if you don’t have an account yet, go to www.wunderground.com and create an account. Then go to the page to register a new personal weather station (PWS): http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/
Once you’ve registered a station, they will give you a “station ID”. You can also go to the webcam page http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/signup.html and setup a webcam, choosing “FTP” as the type, which will create and give you a camera-ID, which you’ll also need.
The next step didn’t work immediately- it took about an hour or so before my FTP account for uploading of webcam images was created on the weatherunderground FTP server (webcam.wunderground.com). You can use FTP software to login on that site with the Camera-ID as the username and password is your weather underground password, and once your account is active and you can connect, you can go on to the next step.
The last step is to go to the bloomsky website http://bloomsky.com/wun and login with your bloomsky account first, then add the WU station-ID and camera-ID and your WU password in the associated fields, choose your bloomsky device in the dropdown menu and choose the button at the bottom to submit or register. If you get an error message that it didn’t work they probably haven’t created your FTP account on the WU webcam server yet. Check to make sure that you can login separately, or just wait and try again.
After 5-10 minutes, I could see that both my weather and camera were updating on my weather underground page!

I did change mine because I wanted a better view of the sky. If you look at my first install, it was attached to my corner siding, 2 feet below the eve. The BloomSky has a really wide angle camera, and the eve would show up and take up 1/4 of the view. I put it out 2 feet and it changed for the better, but I am going to change it again.
My plan now is to separate the camera from the panel. The camera would go on it’s own holder about 3 feet out, and the solar panel would stay next to the eve. This way the weight of the panel will not jostle the camera if I get a crosswind, plus I think it will look better, maybe.
Just remember the wide angle camera placement.
If it was me I’d get it filly working inside then bring it outside but close to the house, make sure it works for a whole then at may 5-10ft at a time move it closer to your ideal location. Repeat until you hit your mark or lose signal. Odds are your sign isn’t reaching far enough.
I got confirmation of shipment yesterday. For those of you who’ve already installed the unit, what type of distance are you able to use between the unit and your router? Reading the Bloomsky support pages, I believe I saw a recommended distance of 30’ maximum. If that’s the case, I’ll most likely be looking at adding a wi-fi extender.
Right now it’s 11 feet from the router. Been sitting there for a couple hours, and still offline
IDK then. Were you able to complete all the setup steps in the Bloomsky app? Mine comes in Monday. I was just hoping you were trying to move it too far.
It took me three tries to pair it, and on the third I think I was getting frustrated and did a cycle or two of on/off.
