Android 2.0 Discussion

We’ve noticed this too. Please write in to support@smartthings.com and they’ll take the appropriate action. Thanks!

Same here.

Did you have modules in the V1 experience?

Haha I’m not in charge of shipping

Hmmm… I’d also write into support about this.

Okay, thanks. I’m setting up everything from scratch and it seems like every switch I add, I get a duplicate one that controls nothing and I can’t remove.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need access to my contacts on my phone? I really shy away from giving out my friends names and numbers if I can.

What’s your address I send you my v1, cause the app it’s worth using the v1 hub while waiting for v2.

I did see the “Contacts” tab in the app as well and I’m not entirely sure what they’re trying to do there, so I’ll keep an eye out for the response.

One guess would be to easily create alerts?

Yes, but had to setup everything from scratch for v2 hub

This is a requirement for our new “Contact Book” feature. This allows developer to add the contact book as an input, giving you access to notify someone from your contacts rather than having to type their number in every time.

@billyb3 @viguera

I downloaded the app and have spent an hour using it on Samsung Galaxy S4 and it is the most unstable app I have ever used. I have had to kill the app at least 20 times and even powered down my phone to start clean, no help. Many different issues.

It seems that many times when I go into a screen or device that I have not displayed before in the new app, it hangs with a white screen. Need to kill app and next time in it probably gets to the screen that hung.

Added my thermostat to a room and wanted to make it the device displayed in the room list to show the temperature. Every time I select the thermostat and then pres the checkmark tn the upper right, it says “an error has occurred” and I have to kill the app to get out of this screen. I did have an image on the room from the old app - don’t know if that causes the problem.

I like some of the new display but it is very wasteful of space. It seems like I need to scroll many more screens than before to see things. The things screen is especially wasteful. There is a menubar at the bottom, one in the middle of the screen, and the picture of my house takes about 1/3 of the screen, leaving about half of the screen to display my things and it only displays 5 things on the screen. I have 30 devices, so I have to scroll a lot. Why does the Home screen need to waste so much space for a picture of my house. I would rather have no picture and more useful space to see what I really want to see.

Besides my Galaxy phone, I also have an iPhone 5s and I have used both for controlling my ST devices (one phone is my work phone). After my terrible experience with the new Android app, I’m having second thoughts about updating the app on my iPhone. If I do and it has the same problems, I will have no reliable way of controlling my devices. I would have preferred the new app to be a different app so I could install both and still use the old one, since it worked.

App crashed again, actually it just froze, screen turned black, and I got dumped back out to the phone’s main screen while in the Rooms view going from room to room using devices. Support request #124159

The Smart Lighting app is pretty nifty!

Really awesome to see some of the rule builder like functionality in there!

+1000. Not to mention this is the screen most folks will use most, and the only one that displays the giant photo. The photo should scroll up, off screen, to display more than five items in this scrolling list. This is HIG 101. We went from a dozen ‘things’ on one screen with no names, to five with names. Very poorly done.

Seriously?! No way man, that’s crazy nice of you if true and I sincerely appreciate the offer!

That being said, I’m sure they’ll be shipping at some point and I can wait, I’ll just be here in the corner waiting while fighting with my Wink hub and GE Link bulbs…

I think I must have trust issues because I am really disappointed in all the apps now a days wanting access to my contact list. The android security interface is not granular enough to tell me what the app is requesting to do. So, I am forced to either trust the developer is not going to be malicious or just not use the app. Because as far as I know once I give that permission there is absolutely nothing stopping the app from grabbing my whole contact list, uploading it to ST servers and it being sold to some telemarketing company to annoy my closest friends and family.

The other thing is, is the app going to call or text people using my phone (I don’t think it has access to do this) or is this just a convenience thing so some app can access my contact list so I can add a phone number without having to remeber the 10 digits?

I just found that my iPhone app updated automatically and it does appear more stable than the Android version. On the iPhone, the picture of my Home does scroll up when scrolling the things so I can see 8 devices - a little better than Android but still very wasteful.

I found that I can set the Featured Device for my room to be my thermostat but it doesn’t display on the main room screen. I assumed that this would display my temperature next to the room name but you don’t see the featured device until you go to that room. Not very useful! I have tried many times to revert this to “No Featured Device” but it never removes the thermostat so it now takes up half of the screen when I select the room. Not very happy…
