Android 2.0.4 Available on Play

[quote=“johnconstantelo, post:37, topic:27644, full:true”]Yeah, it’s called SmartThings…

My phone is stock, no custom ROM’s, weird apps, etc. I’m definitely not going to do a factory reset and hose everything else up and start over with apps that work perfectly well, plus my phone is practically new with very few apps installed. I don’t game, or use social media apps, at all. BTW, my wife’s S4 just had a factory reset done when I cascaded it to her when her other device failed. It still crashes…

I was working perfectly fine with v1.7.6, and then came along app 2.x. This is ST’s issue to resolve, and they know it and have stated so in the support ticket I’d had open for a couple months now.

So what is differen’t then? I just got a Samsung Galaxy S6 (also running 5.1) from T-Mobile which comes free with a metric shit tonne of bloatware and yet, no crashing. It can’t be pure fluke, there must be something you lot are doing that I’m not? What SmartApps/custom device types are using?

I only have the Smart Lighting and Hue Connect SmartApps installed with a single custom device type for the Nest Thermostat. I have a single hub, so one location and I never had a V1 hub.

It is still crashing on me, just less.

You are in a minority of Android users not experiencing severe crashing, so consider yourself lucky. ST knows what’s wrong, and they have known for some time (even earlier than some may admit). We’ve been told that a fix is coming, but several incremental changes must happen first because of the nature of the problem.

SmartThings is intended to be used in a lot more ways than two apps. If the app is only stable using the Smart Lighting and Hue connect, which it is, then all other apps would not be offered. The most problems are coming from so called lab apps listed under Marketplace Smartapps section.

I don’t think smartapps are the issue, and Hue is still in labs anyway.
It seems to be devices, refreshing devices, tiles, enumerating rooms where things go all pear shaped for me.
If it was a specific custom device, or a specific custom app, then the crashing would be repeatable. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve not been able to find any correlation between custom anything and the issues that we’re seeing.
I installed 1.7.6 as a test, and while better than 2x, it also crashes frequently. 1.7.6 seldom crashed for me prior to Sept go live.
The only rather loose correlation I can draw is that the more devices you have the worse the situation is. But that’s not very solid, because the more devices you have the more things you have to manage and configure, so naturally it would be more annoying and present for the power users.

Thankfully for our household we don’t need to use the app very often in day to day operations, the end game is not to have to use it for anything.
Getting a system to that state requires a lot of work, a lot of tweaking, and its an evolution, and requires change and experimentation.
And you need the app for that, there is no other choice in that regard. My system is off to the next level of automation, and that’s why these app crashes are so annoying right now.
I do not need the app to turn devices on and off, I need it to manage my configurations.
Creating, testing and deploying automations that should take a few minutes to setup, an hour to test and a day to observe and tweek are taking weeks to deploy…

I am not either. I may have 3-5 a week. My girlfriend has 0, but she doesn’t use it heavily.

I just installed the new software update for my Note 5 this morning. The ST app gave errors for anything I tried to open (Things, Smartapps, SHM,…). I had to uninstall the app and reinstall it. It kinds of work now. There are some tabs still keep spinning circle.
I wish ST has the web interface like Vera. At least you have an interface to interact with your system if the Android/IOS apps having problem.

Try smarttiles. It’s a third party smartapps and allow you to control from any browser.

There are many ways to control your devices with out ST’s app, there is however only one way to configure your smartApps and devices…

They linked my support request/ticket to an engineering project to fix the app. I like the sounds of that. Don’t anyone burst my bubble.

It would be my pleasure…So let me try. Is this the answer you’ve got?

Note the date above…and the date below:

Needless to say, the issue IS NOT FIXED and that issue is a basic function…Hmmm…did I burst your bubble? I am JUST on DAY 47

I said don’t burst my bubble. Not yet, I’m tough. I believe I’m special. If I’m not special, I might be lucky. And if I’m not lucky, I’ll use my powers of forgetfulness to last until the next update.

I don’t know what happens in the last 2 days to my system. Around 5pm the system automatically switch to Good Night mode. I don’t recall to have anything do that automatically before. It happens around the time the new app updated. How can I check what trigger the mode change?

Reminds me of a gremlin I had… Garage door opening on the weekend for no reason. I would reach out to support to investigate. In my case, they could never find the true root cause. I have heard others have issues like this “here and there”.

That was what happened to me yesterday. The garage opened at 5pm because I have an action to close Garage Door for Good Night routine. The Garage opened even though it was closed. Since then I removed the action to avoid accidentally open the Garage door. I’ll contact the support.
