Amazon Prime Day (July 16-17, 2024)

M3 hub Aqara Smart Hub M3 $40 off coupon

When I got there, the coupon was $42 off! Woo hoo!

BTW, saw a video review that pointed out that this thing has two-way IR, which the reviewer said means if someone in the room picks up the original device remote and uses it, the M3 hub will recognize those signals, which means it can keep state notifications in sync in the app. That would be very cool at our house where we have a dumb window air conditioner with a button remote, that one of my housemates tends to use.

I’m not buying it for that specific feature, but I am curious to see how well that feature works.

meross Matter Smart Plug Mini (2 pack) $22

meross Smart WiFi Air Purifier $90

Meross Store

I must say Meross deals have not been spectacular the past year or so on Prime Day. They are pretty consistent and I doubt the prices will change much, if at all, over the next 2 days.

If you need an iPad 10th generation WiFi 64GB (The current one for the non-pro models), the Amazon “sold by Amazon” price is down to $299 today, The lowest ever according to camel camel camel and even beating Costco by a few bucks.

The 256GB is down by a smaller percentage, to $459.

Several Apple Watch models also at their lowest price ever for “sold by Amazon” Listings.

6 posts were split to a new topic: What’s the Range for a Matter Device?

Amazon Echo Auto (2nd Gen, 2022 release) $25 (-55%)

Shane Whatley has his usual comprehensive list of prime day deals on devices that work with Apple home. A lot of these will also work with SmartThings including, of course, any of the Matter devices.

Shane goes to the trouble of including links to manufacturer sites when they have deals that aren’t at Amazon as well:

Selection may vary depending on where you live, but Home Depot’s deal of the day for 16 July 2024 is a whole bunch of different power tool bundles. Not specifically “Smart Home,” but useful for a lot of projects. :hammer_and_wrench:

My home is smarter than me. Bought the Nanoleaf strip about two weeks ago.

Third Reality has dropped the price on the matter version of their smart nightlight by about a third. The same discount applies to the single pack, two pack, or four pack. This is definitely a good deal if you like this device.

It’s a plug-in, matter over Wi-Fi. (It will typically block the second socket in the outlet, probably the worst thing about the design, but everything else is good.)

It has a light sensor and a motion sensor and a nice programmable RGB nightlight. You can control both the color and the brightness of the light.

In Addition to being good for hallways, stairwells, and kids rooms, this is a nice option for a garage or entryway if you want to use the color LED as an indicator to remind you if the security system is on or off. It would also be good as a “on zoom” indicator light by a home office if you have a place to plug it in.

This version looks exactly the same as the older Zigbee version except for the matter QR code on the side.

Reports are that it’s working well out of the box with SmartThings.

The price shown in the link box is the regular price. The prime day deal is $37 for the two pack. :sunglasses:

The good:

The bad (Blocks second socket)

Remember when Centralite was a white box company for Zigbee ZHA devices and they made the first generation of the SmartThings branded Zigbee sensors?

And then Samsung bought SmartThings and switched to a different manufacturer, but you could still buy centralite branded ZHA devices?

And then Centralite went bankrupt and nobody knew what was going to happen to the name?

And then an Italian commercial lighting company, Ezlo, bought Vera and rebranded all their Z wave devices? And then Ezlo bought Centralite and started making new Zigbee devices?

Nobody?

Ok, well
Ezlo is now making new Zigbee devices and selling them under the Centralite by Ezlo name. And a bunch of them are on pretty good prime day sales. They’re supposed to work out of the box without needing custom edge drivers, but I haven’t seen verified reports on that. Good discounts, though.

Anyway, here’s the sale.

My home is full of Centralite Zigbee devices. Mostly Lowes Iris v2 devices, but some early SmartThings and a few new Centralite branded Temp/Humid sensors. All work incredibly reliably with very good battery life.

I did order a Sinope 50A Zigbee load controller with a $20 off coupon. I am going to use it for my hot water heater to try and schedule it to only run during off-peak electricity rate times.

Walmart did their Walmart+ Days sale before Prime Day started, but today they’re running some really good flash sales.

For example, a 4 pack of Linkind RGB Matter over Wifi bulbs is usually about $43.
There’s a Prime Day deal at Amazon for $25.
But today Walmart has a flash sale at $20. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Reportedly there will be new deals introduced throughout the day.

And here’s the link to all flash deals:

Thanks for this. I may order one.

I have the zigbee version and my only complaint (and I imagine this is true about the Matter version as well) is that you cannot separate the motion from the light. As in, when motion is detected, the light turns on.

This makes it a bit less useful to use the light as a status indicator.

Though having said all that, I guess I don’t know what happens if the light is already on before motion is detected. If it just stays on, I guess it would work fine.

OK, I love this next switch. I know many people will see it as too expensive, but you do get a lot from it. And it hardly ever goes on sale and it has a 20% off prime day sale.

RunLessWire Click (Friends of Hue)

You get two face plates in the box: one that makes it look like a regular rocker switch and one that exposes it as two skinny rockers side-by-side. So depending on how you configure it, you’ll either get on/off rocker or four buttons. (When used with the Hue app, you also get long press dimming from it, but only for devices connected to the same Hue bridge. In all the other integrations, you don’t get the long press functionality.)

The good (and the great)

A) Zigbee Green Power! This design harvests a tiny amount of kinetic energy when you physically press the switch. So it doesn’t have to be wired and it doesn’t need batteries! I love this. :fireworks:

It does take a little extra physical effort to push the switch, but not too much: I can do it with the heel of my hand, and my service dog can do it with his nose. I haven’t ever measured it, but I’d say it’s about the same amount of force as most of those silver automatic door buttons at shopping malls.

B) Choice of six colors, including black, brown, gray, ivory, and light almond. And of course, white.

C) same size as a single gang US light switch, so it looks very natural on the wall, but you can also put it on an end table or coffee table, and use it as a handheld remote. This can be especially nice for ceiling fans.

D) must be connected to a Hue bridge, but then you get all kinds of integrations. If your integration to the Hue Bridge is local, then your integration to this switch is local.

E) feels sturdy, holds up well, even if it gets knocked off the coffee table a few times.

F) 5 year warranty

The bad

G) for some people, it’s bad that it requires a Hue Bridge. Personally, I am fine with that, but I figure it needs to be listed.

H)The cost. No getting around it, this is expensive. Normally lists for $60, and rarely goes on sale. It’s true that if you use it in the two skinny rocker configuration, you’re getting four scene buttons for that price. But still. And if you want to use it as a single rocker, then it is expensive. of course if you compare it to batteryoperated devices, you’ll never have to pay for batteries, so that does help. but still expensive.

PRIME DAY PRICE

$48, so 20% off the regular price. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: they haven’t had a sale this good for at least five years. I know, it’s still expensive, but I thought it was worth listing.
