$42 kindle fires

That works on the 5th gen ones, but not on the 3rd gen ones.

Edit:** Maybe I should just start a new thread instead of highjacking this one.

Sorry. Missed that bit.

No big deal you can see where my frustration comes in though.

My wall happens to be think right there the way it was framed so I mounted an electrical box inside with a USB outlet. Then used the cable it came with. The red and black wire is part of the wireless charger with a micro USB female port.

All the parts I bought except the magnets are listed here. All secrets are listed by Beckwith really.

I have not had it discharge to 0 yet but it is not hard to pop of the back and the Wireless charger is taped on so thats not to hard. 99% on the time it stays on wall.

Thanks for the reply. I see a lot of pictures of torn ribbon cables on Amazon with warnings that the charging receiver is meant to plugged in once and left in place rather than plugged and unplugged, which is why I worry about discharging to zero (with the way my kids replace things and clean up I’m guessing it will rarely end up back on the wall).

Now that I see the plate you used the red and black wires make sense.

I’m just a bit confused by the receiver - the picture seems to indicate 600 mA; the description says 500 mA; the hardware list says ā€œmake sure you get 1000 mAā€. So I assume I need a similar but different receiver than the one linked.

Currently this is the best one I’ve seen - seems tough to find 1000 mA with the offset cable.

I used this one with my Kindle Fire 7: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YGV76LK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01

It’s worked well so far.

Roofone: Good to hear, as this is the one I ordered earlier today. I will update everyone with my success or lack thereof once things are together. I think the rate limiting step will be my magnets shipped from Singapore. I found 100 pieces of the 1/16 inch discs (same as listed above) from supramagnets.com for $19. I figure it’s a supply to plant these all over the house if this first one goes okay.

http://www.supramagnets.com/discs-medium/273-disc-magnet-1-2-inch-n35-100-0094922873316.html

So I’ll have plenty of time to carve out my wall, install the gang box, and run electrical while I wait for the slow boat from Singapore.

Thanks for the input; glad I chose wisely.

Just ordered and received a ā€œUsed - Acceptableā€ unit today (love that free same-day shipping) and it came with 5.0.1 which made putting the latest CyanogenMod on it very easy. The ā€œUsed - Acceptableā€ is truly indistinguishable from new. No scratches, dings, fingerprints, etc. Best $30 ever. I ordered the Rerii receiver and the same DIY coil as everyone else. I’ll update once things come together - just wanted to let everyone know what perfect condition (and 5.0.1) the used units are in.

I honestly dont think I used the same one he did. This is the one I purchased before I found his post and it works fine.

I’m going to order a few once I finish my smarthome.

Which QI receiver works seems to be a hit or miss proposition. I have a 500 mA receiver that works fine but a 1000 mA that doesn’t. So it might take trial and error before you get a combination to work.

Also, I would recommend putting the receiver behind the cover by making a small slit in the cover by the USB port. This avoids issues of torn ribbons.

That is so great. When I got it for $39, I couldn’t believe the forum on slickdeals bashing this tablet. Its under $40 people! Especially when you can do CyanogenMod, all google apps, etc.
I’m using mine with SmartTiles, and I bought Private Dancer to be DLNA via bluetooth with the Amazon Echo. Works well, I like BigTalker with this setup.

when smarttiles is back online i will setup that it will be shown directly.

Help.
Are there any android / tasker experts here?

i have now the following setup:

I have used rootjunky to remove the ads and install google play store.
i have installed tasker and setup that the display will turn on when i’m approaching.
i have installed a no frame webbrowser and setup the smarttiles.click configuration.

What is missing:

  • i cant disable the keyguard (i dont want to swype)
  • webbrowser with smarttiles.click should open instant when i’m approaching.
  • Only during specific time (not in the night)

if someone can help me with that i could write for everyone a manual how to get a $30 tablet with instant smarttiles

The thread below discusses such options. However, I haven’t seen a way to disable the lock screen on the new Fire tablet without installing a custom rom.
