How close is your hub to the wifi router/access point?
My hub is connected to my router vie Ethernet cable. Distance, about a 40’ cable run but actual distance is 30’, one wall.
What color are the lights on the hub?
Green. I might also add, when the devices don’t work, if I put the hub in discovery mode, the lights stay a solid green. Also, when I log into my account on my PC, it shows my hub is still active.
Have you tried the repair mesh option in the mobile app?
Good idea. Yes I have. Twice.
Today at sunset all 9 outside bulbs came on, The family room came on the second office in the house came on. Non of the Christmas lights came on.
The worse thing is when it does not work I can go to my phone and turn them on every time. It is not an issue with the hub talking to the lights or switches. It is an issue were the hub does not always tell the lights to turn on.
Very interesting post. I have 100 + devices on hub v1 and v2. I do have random malfunction as well but to better understand what’s going on. I suggest you look at the log to be sure it’s ST problem and not range or interference. I fixed most of my problem this way. Well unless it’s caused by ST. Then it’s not much you can do but wait.
Non of the Christmas lights came on so I waited. At 5:05pm all the Christmas lights came on.
ff1e114c-8f15-4ce2-98e6-2564c040cd80 5:06:03 PM: debug Parse returned Christmas Mantel switch is on
I am not sure how to debug this. I really do not think it is interference because at time of day I can use my phone to turn any light on or off and they always work. It is the timer function that is flaky
Your Xmas lights came on 3 seconds late. Your outside lights came on 4 mins early. I wouldn’t consider that a big problem. We know ST and schedule time. Unless you set it to be on at a specific time otherwise 5 mins tolerance for sunrise/sunset is fine to me. They actually recommend an offset on your sunrise sunset due to server volume during that that time.
Three days went by with everything working. All the outside lights and Christmas lights came on as scheduled.
Today 1 of 9 outside lights came on and all the Christmas lights came on. This system is like rolling dice. Sometime you get what you want sometimes you do not.
Every time it fails, I can pull out my phone and turn all the lights on or off. That never fails. It is the scheduling system that is broke,
Today the exact same thing that happen yesterday, happen again.
1 of 9 outside lights came on and all the Christmas lights came on. It was the same light that came on yesterday and the same ones that did not turn on stayed off.
Sure enough I go to my phone and click the button to turn them all on and they all come on perfect.
What is Control4? I do not have that. Does it turn lights on and off as scheduled??? I would love to buy a system does that! I have yet to have 1 week when my schedules work reliably.
Control4 is a very high end home automation service, the kind of system NBA players and CEOs get for their mansions. People who have a house that looks like this:
Typical cost of $50,000 and up, plus an annual maintenance fee. Proprietary zigbee. If I had the money, I’d get it ( and the house to go with it) but my budget is a lot less.
I’m not a CEO and I’m terrible at basketball. Your price for a Control4 system is about right. It is rock solid, never fails, and does everything! I LOVE IT. The problem is, the homeowner can do only a little programming, and if you want to add something, the dealer must come out and do it for you.
I have Control4 for A/V (10 TVs, 4 DirecTV TiVo, Blu-rays, Apple TV, about a dozen security cameras, etc.) and security purposes, remote access cost $100 per year. If Control4 ever loses contact with the, “mothership” it will automatically reboot the network, and text me a report. It has done this twice in the two years I have owned it.
For Lighting and Shades I have a Lutron HomeWorks system, remote access cost $60 per year. Lutron is flawless, zero issues, zero problems, I have over 80 light controls, and 10 shades. You can do a fair amount of programming yourself with Lutron, (using iPad). However, if you want to add any hardware you need the Lutron dealer. One of the great things about Lutron is you have competent, English speaking, support people available on the phone 24/7. They normally answer emails within 30 minutes, (with good answers)!
I have the SmartThings hub because I also want to do other more simple controlling. Moreover, I can buy simple plug-in switches (Aeon Labs DSC24-ZWUS Smart Switch) for less than $50 a piece. Although not as good as Revolv, I do like the SmartThings hub. The main thing driving me nuts right now, is that I constantly have to re-enter my username and password, and ultra-slow replies from support.
I use to have control 4 it isn’t just for people that are rich, and it sure isn’t a high end home automation service. Control 4 is junk and all they want is your money . And if anything ever goes wrong doesn’t matter how big or small you have to call someone to come out and fix it .
