Samsung should just buy Hikvision, seriously. Techwin is great but the Hikvision stuff, (Linux, ONVIF, RTSP) are the best cameras dollar for dollar right now
I believe the Foscams meet both of those criteria as well as being exceptionally affordable with a wide array of features.
I also have several of them and integration would be lovely.
dropcam support withdrawn (temporarily?) . Ask support to reactivate dropcam connect. I noticed same thing when I reinstalled everything with v 2 hub. I think dropcam/nest is changing stuff so integration is not stable. ST support responded quickly.
oh see above, ST officially replied in above post.
So a follow up regarding my V2 Hub and D-link Camera Intergration -
NOTE: I verified the functionality of the Camera using Dlink software and have the camera hard wired to minimize connection issues.
Integration Experience:
The integration between the camera and v2 Hub worked but only after 30 minutes of dinking around and playing with settings. For example, the ST system did not auto detect the camera right away. Only until I went through the manual setup process and complete the setup manually, did the system finally start âauto detectingâ when going back through the setup process. (hope that makes sense) All in all, got it to work, but I âfeelâ like i got lucky getting this thing to work. Not a good experience to say the least.
Current issues
-
Iâm unable to view the camera through my iphone, while my iphone is connected to the house WIFI. I am able to view the camera through my iphone when on LTE or from another building/house WIFI connection (note: This does appear to be a known issue, due to the ST app suggesting turning off your cell phones WIFI connection if having viewing issues)

Viewing Permission issue/concern: Iâm currently supporting two locations (2 hubs) under one account. I have several devices (Peopleâs cell phones) in the system due to them needing the use of one location. The user permission issue was never a big concern of them having access to BOTH locations, because the worst they could do is turn off/on lights or unlock a door, but now this permission issue escalates due to visual privacy concerns now. Iâve escalated the permission concern to customer support.
In conclusion
Removing the permission issue factor from my conclusion, I would say the camera integration works, but there is much to be improved upon. I have no tried any more camera interactions yet ie motion sensor detection triggers or camera notifications. My advice to you is wait, until the camera bugs get ironed out and (hopefully) ST starts supporting cheaper cameras.
Goodness, thatâs the opposite of my experience. I got a DLink and it was horrendous to set up. The app was awful, the camera wouldnât move properly, etc. Firmware update helped, and an iOS app update helped more, but it didnât work through the dlink app off my network for the first couple days (before magically working).
But the integration with SmartThings? Flawless, quick, and so so easy.
Havenât tried triggering it and looking at the recording, though.
Doh! Well, Iâm glad your ST setup went smooth at least.
Keep us posted on when you finally have things triggering!
Yeah, I really ought to try it out. I generally do, but I had so much going on when I set it up with the new hub that I forgot. Add that to the list of things to do shortlyâŚ
Alrighty so not the best. First, watching the video live doesnât seem to work when on wifi (thought that was working before, but perhaps not since I was doing all kinds of things when trying to get the camera to work before I integrated with ST). To be fair, thereâs a nice message that says it might not work on wifi.
On to the SHM clips. It did trigger, it did get the clips, I think. There should be 2. The first one showed up after about 5 minutes - it has a grey box with âClip Generatingâ until then. The second is apparently still generating, itâs been 15 minutes.
Edit: After dismissing the alert, I got the play button for the second clip, but it doesnât play.
Have you spoken to ST support at all on this? I ask because I am looking to integrate a camera into v2 for my DIY security system.
another vote for hikvision / rtsp. ASAP!
Another vote for rtsp
I installed the D-Link DCS-5222L yesterday and I sort of agree with you. Installation of the camera was not as smooth as one would hope but integration to HUB v2 was very smooth. A couple of things I noticed that might be useful for future reference/users:
-
D-LINK asks you to download installer from their website. It seems that installation is very sensitive not just to seleccting the correct model but also the hardware version of the camera you bought. BE SURE to check the hardware version of your camera on the box before downloading installation software. The DCS-5222L that I got required hardware version B.2 but it HAD to be from the DCS-5222L model and not from DCS-5222LB1 (although in both the D-LINK app and the smartthings app it shows as DCS-5222LB1)

On the video clips option, just as Tracy was mentioning, at the beginning it wasnât working from me. I would just say âCapturingâ but nothing would show up. Only after I modified the lenght of the clips form 2 minutes to 30 seconds, they began to appear. But they are only between 2 and 5 seconds in length.
I have the camera also hooked to my QNAP NAS and the surveillance station is use for recording events; however, the only trigger I have been able to set up is the motion sensor activation of the recording (DCS-5222L has an in-built sound and motion sensor).
Anyone knows if/how could smartthings hub (Home Monitor or Smart Alarm) communicate with QNAP NAS to trigger the recording an event?
Mine work 2 minutes with Samsung cameras but it takes an hour or two till the clips are available
Hire the guy that developed blue iris, I heard he knows how to work with a lot of cameras
Blue Iris / iSpyConnect
As for the devices to support, as much as I am a Ubiquiti fan, I think their cameras are over priced and under specced, I mean their 1080p camera is like $400+ and isnât that great qualityâŚ
2nd vote for the HikVision cameras, insane quality for the money, seriously.
Does HikVision cameras support RTSP? It didnât look like it based on the specs I was reading.
Yep, pretty certain they support RTSP.
RTSP and H264 are the requirements, just cause it has RTSP doesnât mean it is H264, make sure it has both.
Then it depends on how the authentication to the stream works as well? Is it token based, digest based, or just plain text?
