V3 Hub Disconnection Problems

Writing in the name of @Nadavz257:

Need your help. For a week my st hub keep disconnects and connects every few hours, I tried to do a soft reset, I tried to connect to wifi, nothing helps. I would appreciate ideas.

@nayelyz, @SmartThings

@brad_st no longer works for the company, and @SmartThings is just used to make announcements, I don’t think anyone monitors it.

The best thing to do is to contact official support. In the US, you can find the information at the bottom of the following page:

If the person is in a different country, go ahead and contact US support and ask them who to get in touch with.

It’s also important to give the model number of the hub. :thinking:

@Nadavz257 and me are from ISRAEL :israel:
NO ONE is willing to help us. Not Smartthings US and not Smartthings UK.
The only option for us is to try this forum. Hopefully someone will try to help… ST hub V3

While writing , disconnections are still happening.

This may be a long shot but try changing the DNS servers that your router uses. If it does not resolve the issue, you can change them back.

Not certain of the best choices in Israel but if Google DNS is an option, try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. If you are using currently using Google DNS or do not want to use them, find better options available to your region.

Again, it is something to try… may or may not resolve the issue.

How many Edge Drivers are you running? V3’s are know to have memory issues with too many Edge Drivers. Memory issues could be causing the restarts.

Replying in the name of @Nadavz257 (that can’t reply to messages because of unknown reason)

Nadav have:

27 Edge drivers
86 devices.

I don’t think this is too much…

Didn’t help…
Disconnections are still exist.

@Nadavz257

@dotan_shai
could he go into the IDE and see in the hub events if are internet disconnections (offline) or reboots, which include turning the zigbee and zwave radios off and on?

Loop reboots were usually always resolved by turning the hub off for a few minutes and then back on

If all of those are running (have devices assigned) then that’s way too many. I saw memory issues starting at 13 running drivers on my V3 hub. I’ve since moved almost all of my devices off of ST so I don’t know whether the situation has improved with the recent firmware updates that claim to help the Edge driver memory problems. I would recommend getting the running drivers at least below 20, and probably also below 15.

Another way to check whether memory is an issue is to go through the add a device by brand prompts. There should be a memory warning or error on one of the screens before it gets to the point where it starts scanning. The memory warning doesn’t show on the scan nearby option - you have to go through the by brand option.

Device limit, automation limit and now a driver limitation. An easy solution to extend the hub’s memory capacity would be to connect an external flash drive into the USB port - but unfortunately the port doesn’t have that capability.

Even though the DNS resolver wasn’t the problem, when I see an opportunity to discourage someone from using Google DNS - I’ll add my 2 cents. If you prefer better (not perfect) privacy, switch to Cloudlfare’s DNS servers.

THIS THING WORKS !!!
@Nadavz257 updated me that after 24h, no disconnection were spotted !!

As always… @Mariano_Colmenarejo thank you so much for your help and support.

BTW… Same suggestion was given from Aeotec Support that help even if you are from :israel:
