I have an old V2 that’s still working very well, except for a long time, if I move the hub, the power will shut off. I don’t know if it’s the power cable itself or something internal. My goal is to fix this without spending a bunch of money on a new hub (I don’t even know if you can get a hub anymore?) Anyone else have this? Usually I can plug the power cable back in and it will be fine (as long as I don’t touch the hub again.)
of course you can get hubs. The Station and Aeotec Smart Home Hubs are available as New (or used if trying to save money). You can find Used V2 and SmartThings V3 hubs … mainly on eBay. Do not purchase a "NEW ST V3 hub as the prices are unusually high since they are no longer manufactured and the sellers jack up the prices.
one option on the V2 is to use POE. I have been using POE for the past 4 years on my V2. use at your own risk.
POE splitter… one cable will plug into your power port so if that is what is damaged… you will still be in the same situation. so you may want to go with the suggestion of a replacement power supply.
I think the use case for this is you don’t have to have an outlet close by, but that’s not my situation. If the hub could handle a pure POE at the ethernet port, that would be the resolution. In this case, it’s either the power card is bad or there’s something internally wrong.
One of my V2 hubs seems to be doing something broadly along those lines. In my case it is normally off and lately the cabling has been frequently disturbed and it often doesn’t want to power on first time when tested. I suspect it might be a mechanical issue with the power port.
I note that later models of the V3 switched to using a Samsung USB-A charger with a USB to barrel plug cable instead of the PSU with captive cable.
