I just came across something I hadn’t seen before. It’s the abilty to transfer a hub with devices to a new owner. In the SmartThings app, I clicked on the Hub then the 3 dots in the upper right corner then ‘Edit device’ then ‘Give devices to someone else’ then ‘Transfer’. The person I want to transfer it to would scan the QR code.
Has anyone done this and was it successful?
I sold my condo and would like to use this when I meet with the new owner instead of having them factory reset the hub and reinstall all the devices.
The problem I’ve had is that not all the devices in my Location have the same owner. Indeed devices even being assigned an owner is a relatively new thing (I first noticed it early this year). So user A will be offered a list of devices but gets told the devices have to be transferred in bulk with the hub which isn’t an option. However user B which does own the hub hasn’t always been offered it either.
Only once was I able to attempt a hub transfer and it failed with a vague ‘Something went wrong’ error. Whether it was because of the mix of device owners, or because the transfer was to the same Location, or both, or neither, isn’t clear.
What is missing is the ability to assign or update the owner of devices within a Location. It doesn’t really make sense that the devices on a hub might not all have the same owner.
