Agreed. I have all my critical security-related stuff on a separate, monitored security system (FrontPoint). Water sensors, door, window and motion sensors are all controlled and monitored there. Heck, I’ve even set up some Z-Wave switches to that system (which uses cellular) so I can remotely reboot my router, cable modem, local outside security cameras DVR - and my SmartThings hub in case it’s needed. Works like a champ.
I was in the Navy. They let me play with big guns and explosives! Can I be awesome too? ? ? Lol
I like pie. Pie is good.
Just out of curiosity how much does FrontPoint cost a month?
I have a degree in IT. I know the field. I don’t work in IT because I found it boring.
I have another degree in computer tech - also boring.
Oh, and another in electronics engineering, not as boring, but I still don’t do it for a living.
My job is fixing “super espresso machines” yes, that’s what they are called. Computer controlled multi programmable systems that produce the sweet nectar of life. It’s boring too. But I love it.
You know why? I get to travel, a lot. I work alone. My office is a thousand miles from home, I’ve been there once in four years.
You want to know how to make the perfect Italian latte, I can tell you.
You want to know how to make high quality weapons? I can tell you.
You want to know how to make an F-18 operate, I can tell you.
I can tell you all kinds of other things too.
But guess what… Who cares! ! ! Cause if y’all want to have a passing contest, I can jump in there and out most of you to shame. And I can back it up too!
Soooooo…
Let’s talk about making my lights turn on and off instead, now that’s not boring at all! Let the ST guys do their thing, cause we don’t work there and our drivel is pointless…
Unless your drivel is some new way to make my lights change color based on my bowel movement schedule.
Who’s game?
There are three plan levels:
- Protection Plan
- Interactive Plan
- Ultimate Plan
All levels provide 24/7 monitoring with wireless and cellular communication. At $42.99 (with a three-year contract), I have the Interactive Plan because it provides email, text and push alerts, Geo-Fencing, Light (Z-Wave) control, remote access and control to the system, etc. It does not provide the camera monitoring support or the thermostat support like the Ultimate plan - which if I remember correctly, is $7/month more than my plan.
I’ve been very pleased with FrontPoint which has been extremely reliable and rock-solid. I’ve made a conscious decision to keep home automation and Security on separate systems. SmartThings has the potential to be more capable than FrontPoint for HA and FrontPoint is very good at security/security monitoring AND it’s infinitely more reliable.
Hey guys, let’s keep the topic at hand in mind with every post. Please keep from directing any anger at each other. If you wanna vent, PM me!
I will close this topic if personal attacks continue.
Thank you…
Well played sir, well played…
However, that’s definitely not a RM rule or custom SmartApp I want to see anytime soon…
Well, if it was running crappy it would be expected… Lol
How about those Patriots
Is this effecting everything? Ever since yesterday I have been getting odd behaviors. I can turn switches on, but not off or there is long delays between selecting off and it finally turning off. RM seems to be hit or miss. Some of my rules will not perform there actions reliably or they are just very slow.
yes it is. the database is having issues so everything is effected.
I thought my system performance had improved over the weekend, but I can see now several issues are still lingering, and my dashboard seems to be getting worse again.
I sure liked this system for a couple months, and sadly I told a lot people about it.
Yeah mine was doing great until yesterday evening. now its back downhill
