Correct, it won’t work for zigbee or zwave devices as they need to directly exchange information with the new controller in order to be accepted into the routing table.
I doubt they fixed the glitch with doing it this way. Don’t delete anything after doing this, as they will get orphaned and will prohibit anything with that DNI from functioning. The DB entry remains but is then unlinked from your account. What I had to do was literally start over because of the account corruption that occurred.
I’ll believe ST has a hub migration tool as soon as I see BLE, full local network stack access, local DTH and SA from community devs run, etc. etc.
You know you may be right here, even after doing this, while the device “shows up” in the new list thing with the new hub, the rooms it’s assigned to don’t seem to change. Yeah this isn’t a “clean” solution.
What I’m struggling with is where the heck are the dashboards (door & locks, lights & switches and home & family).
I’m can’t seem to figure out how to move my family mobile presence devices from the old hub to the new hub?
Old dashboards were toast for v2 hubs a long time ago. No way to get them back. (unless you have a really old v1 mobile app) have to wait for the mythical HTML smartapp solutions to be available (showed at SDC months ago…)
Mobile presence you have to remove and re-add each mobile device in the mobile app.
You essentially have to start over with a new location (or account).
Keep in mind deleting a device sometimes triggers a DNI caching mechanism which will make it appear that the device isn’t responding, but magically after 24 hours it will start working.
Yes the DNI caching have give me lotsa trouble in the past.
Now am curious, when I look at the mobile presence devices, what if I took the DNI and created new mobile presence devices with the same DNI but now tagged to the new hub (and delete the old one). That should work right?
Once you delete the last device that is in a dashboard category, that dashboard category is gone forever. You cannot get it back. And there are no dashboard categories if you set up a new account except the smart home monitor.
LOL, maybe? Who knows with this platform.
Man I REALLY liked those dashboards, I don’t understand why they rid of them, easy way to do a quick status check on the house and switches. My spouse is gonna kill me for this, she used it the most…

You’re not the only one who liked them…
I use to love to be able to look at the dashboard and see if some lights are on if there’s motion, if all my doors are locked closed etc. Now the only thing on the dashboard is the short cut to smart home monitor its really pointless. The other big grip is yes it’s automation but I’d like to still easily turn on groups of lights with shortcut and you took the ease of that away. I don’t want to have to create a routine when it use to be so easy. Anyway it really bums me out, I was so excited about the new hub and after reinstalling all of my devices and locks I find this out. It was like a kick in the jewels and a ha ha got yah. Please fix this only Apple assumes they know what’s best and refuses to fix their mistakes.
Best xAF substitute may be SmartTiles.

Yeah but that doesn’t run on the phone. Just got me thinking…

Sure it does, it runs in pretty much any web browser.
Yes ofcourse what I meant it doens’t run in ST’s app.
no doubt SmartTiles is the best browser dashboard out there, I’m thinking about spouse appeasement so I can continue my experimentation with the likes of ST. What ST doesn’t seem to appreciate is that most of the world is resistant to change, and training family to use ST is like moving a mountain. So when they do something dumb like get rid of a perfectly nice dashboard, we end up $*&% creek.

Just tell the family there’s a new feature and they get to pick their own color scheme.
Well the real story is one for drinking beers lots of beers, cause it just doesn’t make sense.
If HTML ever gets released as shown at SDC (or better?) the replacement for it will be great. But I stopped holding my breath for any future promise ST ever speaks of. I’m a show me, don’t tell me and let me do it myself.

That WORKED like a CHARM! Phew, that’s load off, this was going to be the toughest, big family here ![]()
Took my spouses’s DNI and created a new device linked to the new old hub, deleted the old device, she away from home, asked her to fire up the ST app and it promptly changed state to away.
For now… For now… Honestly, no idea if it will break, but given the fragile state of presence as a whole… Don’t be surprised if you have issues.
Do you have the brand of that charger? Have a similar outlet setup near my front door and this will solve an issue about “mounting” an old phone.
