[ST Edge] Philips Hue LAN [BETA] (3rd Party Driver, Not ST Native)

Hey all,

First off I’ll apologise if I’ve missed something in the 400 plus messages in this thread.

Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger and brought some hue lights and dimmers as I saw that this edge driver was available thanks to Brian from automate your life. I’ve added the driver to the smartthings app and scanned for new devices and added it to my smartthings devices. I’ve also got my hue hub added as a device (I chose the connect to hub, not the connect account option). I then opened the edge driver hue hub hoping to be able to go to the next step in the setup and link the hubs. Unfortunately since adding the edge driver hub a few days ago everything apart from the top menu buttons is grayed out. I can change the room that the hub is in and that is about it

My smartthings hub is running firmware 048.00003 which is the latest update available in Australia.

The network I’m using is Google’s stupid nest wifi with the auto network crap and I’m hoping the Samsung hub and hue hub should be on the 2.4ghz network.

My hue hub was updated with the latest firmware (that is released in Australia) when I installed it a few days ago.

I appreciate any help in getting this working

Cheers, Geoff

This doesn’t sound right. The driver doesn’t have this option. What you are describing is the stock driver.

You probably have 2 hubs, because it sounds like you varied from the instructions. One is from this driver (your screenshot). The other is whatever you did when you made that earlier comment. You can remove that one.

For your screenshot, just reboot your hub. It looks like ST didn’t initialize your device. The instructions for install are in the first post as well as @AutomateYourLife 's video

Hey, thanks for the speedy response.

When I said I chose to connect the hub and not just the account I meant that was when I originally added the hue Bridge. At the moment I have the hue Bridge connected as per the normal smartthings hue integration. I have set everything up in the following way

  1. Connected hue Bridge to router and installed 5 lights, 2 dimmers and a motion sensor through the hue app

  2. Linked the hue Bridge to smartthings with the add device button and chose connect hubs. This brought my lights only into smartthings

  3. Enrolled in the hue beta edge driver and then went to discover devices in smartthings. This brought in the new hue hub. When I go to the new hue hub it brings up the page as per the screenshot I took. I now have 2 hue hubs on smartthings, the original which shows connected and the new one from the beta edge driver which won’t update.

I will try a soft reset of the smartthings hub by pressing the reset button till the led turns red tonight once I get home as I am unable to work out how to do it remotely

Thanks heaps again for the reply and for putting the work in to create this edge driver.

You should try only to power cycle the SmartThings Hub, after that if you already have the Hue LAN Beta, clic on the Hue V2 and then click on add devices!

Thanks Jose, I’m guessing by power cycle you mean unplug the lan and power from the smartthings hub for 3 minutes and then reconnect it all? I did try something similar but only unplugged it for about 30 seconds

Cheers, Geoff

Hi man!
30 seconds should be enough, but try with 3 minutes to see if goes better, only power cable should be enough you don’t need to unplug lan cable.

Omg, blueyeti and jose (but especially blueyeti for the driver), you guys have saved my marriage. It all works now :partying_face::partying_face::partying_face:. Thank you so much guys

Philips Hue Beta 2023-07-04.22.59.13.74

  • Supports different icon pack for smart plug devices (May need to refresh the device after update. Also need to choose the smart plug type within the Hue app)

Very strange thing, today I realized that all the automations linked to the switching on of hue lamps have disappeared. All the automations that turn off still work .Has anyone had this problem?

Same here.

What kind of lights? Were they smart plugs? There isn’t really anything the driver can do to add/edit/delete automations, so I’m guessing ST did something with an app or firmware upgrade.

No smart plugs, only dimmable bulbs, RGB bulbs and rgbw led strips

for info, not only from the automations, but also from the scenes that foresaw their switching on, have disappeared.

today I realized that the official hue drive in my Hub is back. I guess it’s one of those impossible to erase drives, isn’t it? It’s the sleeper, I don’t have lights associated with it, and I haven’t even seen a double hub related to its use.

Not sure if it was the recent driver update or new updates SmartThings pushed out, but I can’t control any of my Philips devices anymore. Driver is showing version 2023-07-04T22:59:13.749799749. I can’t tell you exactly when it stopped working. I was out of town but noticed tonight nothing Hue related is working anymore.

I would start simple and try things in this order:

  1. Does it still work in the Hue app? If not, check your Hue hub for issues
  2. Check the Hue Hub device in ST and make sure it is still linked
  3. Restart the ST Hub

I got it working by doing the following…

  1. Rebooted ST Hub

  2. Went back to the app and it showed my Hub was unlinked

  3. Went Through Linking Process again

  4. Rebooted ST Hub again and Hue Hub

  5. Was able to control my lights again but automations lost “Play Favorite” settings. Just gone… had to add them back.

Everything seems to be working again except one filament bulb. It wont play it’s favorite no matter what I do through ST. Works fine in the Hue app. Other controls work for it though.

Same here until I rebooted the hub

Thanks. I am going to look for a workaround for ST not initializing everything. I was hoping they would fix that issue, but it is taking too long. Reboot works, but it is irritating.

My random misbehaving light bulb is behaving now too. Not sure what that was about. Also… I have some HUE LEDs under my son’s bed that used the built in Scheduled On\Off timers when selected on the device. For some reason they were off by 12 hours… the AM turn off was turning on while the PM turn on was turning off. To fix that, I just had to flip that schedule off and then on again. Now it seems I am back to normal. Strange bug there……Still wouldn’t give up this driver though. Works so much better than the native. They should just pay you for it.

Hello I was wondering if this driver is able to update location to ST? I’m having issues with my location updating in ST and Google home and wondering if I can trigger ST routines based on my location according to hue?
