Smartthings shared iPhone location information with the members

I created a test Routine to test a theory.

Creating a Routine using Member Location in itself results in a notification. The created Routine includes a hidden custom notification that is sent when it is activated.

So I think the Routines are sending the notifications.

Yes, they are definitely triggered by a Routine that is using your phone location information. It appears to be some kind of privacy reminder, but no idea why they added this or if they had any idea what the impact would be. Hopefully they’ll fix it quickly.

Yes. This text has been in the notifications screen for a long time, just not as a push notification

It could be the ‘fix’ has to be the one already being used - blocking the specific notification type.

I find the whole thing rather odd as users already have to explicitly approve sharing of their location data when enabling use of the device location in the app.

Ah right, I hadn’t picked up on that. I never use Member Location so I’ve never encountered it.

Issue seems to be resolved, no longer receiving duplicate notifications.

Same with me. Issue resolved.

Seems to be fixed, but…

…it’s probably an outdated concept now, but back in the day, there used to be this thing called “Testing.” The idea was that, after you’d changed something in the system, you would run all the processes that depended on that change, to see if they still worked correctly.

When you are in the edit mode in a routine there is a test button at the bottom.

Still happening for me which is very annoying. Should I delete and reinstall? How did you guys fixed it?
