Too bad the random hub offline notifications doesn’t explain why ZW devices are not responding to app, but are responding to automations and app shows changes of state properly. Also doesn’t explain why everything indicates hub is in home/disarmed yet only SL routines set for “night mode only” are running.
Been there as well. Mainframe Operator, Ops Analyst, Change Manager, Help Desk Manager to Software Developer where Help Desk and Change Mgmt applications are my primary customer base (across all industries), where on top of everything else, I deal with implementing automated Escalation rules for Group Assignments (Tier 1, 2, 3, Management) based on Service / Operational Level Agreements. ![]()
Would love to know what ST uses as it’s primary ticketing system and what type of SLA Engine they have in place.
Yup, I was lucky enough - I was holding the phone when the offline message popped up on my phone, opened the app a split second later. Everything was fine!
The generic Offline notifications have been addressed. You should not be receiving those for your Hub going offline or for devices going offline.
I’m getting similar behavior for some devices but they just flat out don’t respond to anything but local control, yet they report correctly.
What were you seeing on the ‘still responds to automation’ front so I can see if I can repro that…
SmartLighting is mostly working, devices are showing proper (ON/Off) state in ST. Devices respond to ActionTiles, Alexa, Google Assistant, etc .
Just like 2 weeks ago. However devices show as unavailable in IDE and app, do not respond to commands in ST app. ST app and IDE recent activity shows proper history of events.
Yeah I have different results. SmartLighting isn’t even working for me on the devices that dropped.
In the last number of days, I have had devices go offline, but still working from the app and even ActionTiles. It shows offline in the IDE. I get the offline alert, but in 15 minutes they usually come back online. Also automatons still work. This is driving me crazy. Also these devices are not using any custom Device Type Handlers or non smartThings smart aps.
So far I don’t see it happening again from the time you posted. Looks promising. Thanks
Brad,
I am still seeing devices going offline randomly. I have a report every hour that shows different devices going offline. There is no consistency to it. Just seems random. I have turned device health off, but that just stops the IOS app from showing the device is not available. All of the devices are working, so i am not having issues that way. Just wondering if there is anything i can do to get rid of these offline issues.
Thanks
Jeff
Devices being marked offline is a separate issue.
In general, the best way to reduce devices going offline is to ensure you have a strong mesh network by running Z-Wave network repairs and adding and adjusting the location of repeaters. It can take a bit of tinkering to achieve this and in some cases, you may always have devices on the edge of the network which flip-flop between online and offline.
Brad,
Thanks…I guess it was coincidence. Ran a Zwave repair, and had a switch that wouldn’t update the mesh info. I recycled the power, and re-ran the Zwave repair, and everything seems to be on-line at the moment.
Thanks for your assistance!
Jeff
Is anyone else still getting these notifications? I too was getting the same generic “offline” notification last week. It stopped for a few days then suddenly, this weekend, I started getting the notifications again. The symptoms are the same as what others have described. However, I am getting a less generic message (“Your hub at ‘location name’ is now offline”). My network seems to be solid with no other issues.
The new offline notification is “Your hub at ‘location name’ is now offline” and then there isn’t a message indicating the Hub came back online.
Is the concern that the message is not showing your location name or that your Hub is going offline?
Oops. I tried to mask out the location portion of the message and the editor just omitted it completely. I am getting an appropriate location. The concern is that I get notifications that the hub is offline but it doesn’t seem to be offline. When I access the app, everything seems fine. Much like the notifications others were getting earlier. I just get a less generic message now. It’s very sporadic but it’s happening about 20 times per day.
There are only 7 or so Hub disconnects in the past week so if you are getting 20 per day, that’s unexpected.
Sounds like it’s only me still having this issue. I got 4 new notifications just since my last reply. Any suggestions on things I could try in order to solve this?
So digging deeper, it does look like your Hub is disconnecting and reconnecting at a higher than usual rate, about 100 in the past 2 days.
Are you getting both messages or just the first?
-
“Your SmartThings Hub at is now inactive. Please check your internet connection.”
-
“Your hub at is now offline”
Prior to this past weekend, I was getting only the second message. Now I’m getting only the first.
I don’t fully understand the change but we adjusted a server configuration this afternoon and I haven’t seen the Hub disconnect since. Please let me know if it starts back up.
