I just installed the smartthings power outlet and in the dashboard I can’t tell whether it’s on or off. Do I do something wrong?
I would think when the outlet is switched on, the icon would show ON and be green.
Any one?

ooohh that would be nice.
Are you talking about the Centralite white power outlet, that is a rounded square face, with a small manual button and blue status light?

Yeah I don’t think they ever show ON/green status in my phone app. I can only tell if it’s on by checking the wattage. I kinda hate them because they don’t show status, but they are do work well enough for infrequent switching.
Most other plug-in modules do show ON=green status. Actually ALL of the several brands I’ve used, do show status in dashboard.
Yes. That is the one. I think I might exchange it then if I can’t tell if it’s on or off.
How do you check wattage?
What brand should I buy?
click the gear in upper-right corner, the default ST device support shows watts in an unselectable subtile.
all the brands are practically the same to me. I have 4 or 5 but
Remotec ZDS-110na has a dimmer/switch slideswitch which is nice to have for appliances, and you can move it to a dimming light if you want. FYI the predecessor ZDS-100us was recalled for a theorized safety concern.
Aeon Labs DSC06106-ZWUS - Z-Wave Smart Energy Switch - has better power monitoring support in ST with selectable KW and KWH subtiles. $30 is a good price. I don’t like $40+ plug-in modules.
It “should” be very obvious wether its on or off
You might want to check https://graph.api.smartthings.com/device/list and verify the devices’ type is set to SmartPower Outlet
The only other thing i know to check is https://graph.api.smartthings.com/hub/show/ to verify your zigbee firmware is 1.5.4. Older firmware does have issues with the SmartPower Outlet
If all that looks good a screenshot might help us determine what weirdness is going on and there is also support@smartthings.com
I confirmed my outlet type is “SmartPower Outlet” and “zigbeeFirmware: 1.5.4” .
I’ve never tried deleting it and re-installing. It’s not worth that to me and I’m 20 miles away.
One wrinkle may be, my max power usage is 3watts, typically 2.8watts. Perhaps it will never read ON for that low usage. Turning it OFF does update power to 0watts.
Thats sounds like the presentation of the device in the smartthings app may not be working well. It can be on with a 0 watt power draw. You can try logging off/on the app on your phone to see if that clears it up. It could also be a bug in the app on your phone, if the log off/on does not work i’d send support a screenshot.
On/Off Status started working on this device a couple days ago
