The last 2-3 weeks I cannot use my SmartThings app on my iPhone 16 any more. When I start the app and tap on “Sign in”, the login screen flashes briefly, but in maybe half a second I get an error screen reading, “Access denied” “Unusual activity was detected, so we blocked access to your account for security.”
I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing, to no avail. I can go to the SmartThings website and log in there using a web browser, but the TV remote capabilities are limited there. Any idea what’s going on here or what to try next?
You may want to post a screenshot of the error when attempting to login. Is there any error code generated that may help ST Support identify the issue.
The only thing I can think you can try - login to https://account.samsung.com and remove that signed-in device and any inactive devices on your account.
If you use a Password manager, make sure you are using the correct sign-in info for Samsung.
Thanks for the tag, @jkp.
In this case, it would be best to contact Customer Support first, @rvalron, since the issue might be related to your Samsung account and you’re located in the US.
You can contact them by following any of these steps:
From the ST app
Open the SmartThings app
Go to the menu tab at the bottom-right corner.
On this page, select the option “contact us” and then go to “Error reports”
Select the topic related to your issue and follow the steps to submit your support request
Same problem here. Interestingly it does the same thing if I try to login to account.samsung.com in my iOS Chrome browser but on my Windows PC (on the same network) I can login without issue. This is obviously an issue with Samsung’s account login page.
This is what it’s doing. I tried reporting this to Samsung via their chat portal and they tried telling me it’s my browser cache or some such nonsense. This is an issue with the security of their account login page but reporting the issue to the right people seems to be near impossible. Their front line tech I was chatting with refused to escalate the issue.
