Smartthings android app update 1.7.69.23 - 4 Aug 21

Development is all agile nowadays. Nobody cares about these things, if broken it will might be fixed in the next release, or not. It all depends what is priority at that moment.

We can state it clearly, there is no QC/QA in place, it has been proved many times. And there are no quick fixes for any issue once the users highlighted it in any form.

There were cases when users reported issues in beta state and they still hasn’t been fixed. It is always a minority of users who are affected, so they doesn’t count. The most important that you can hit your new phone to your new Samsung TV to start screen mirroring. Nothing else matters…

Controlling a water heater for the periods when you need hot water. Or irrigation, to turn on specific times. Etc…

It isn’t the most obvious UI.

On my phone you can just see the top of the word ‘Repeat’ when you open it and that sort of gives the game away.

My natural instinct was to tap and drag in one movement to try and create a time period. Instead you seem to have to tap to create it first, and then manipulate it.

Ah so a mistake could be made with not setting an off time, on off forces the user to choose both at one hit, OK fair enough, a heading above it might have helped as it appeared to me to be a layout issue, it is very different to all other time based settings

Well, damn. My app updated while I wasn’t looking.

Yes it is enforcing the limit.

Yes I can no longer add any device.

Coincidentally I have a GE switch actinv. Up and the remedy is guess what… Remove and re-add.

Guess what I cant do anymore.

So I opened a ticket as I advise everyone else to do and guess what the result was…

“I would like to inform you that you can create 10 locations under 1 account and there is a limit of 200 devices, 20 rooms, 20 members for 1 location so the option to add device is grayed out in the app.”

The only alternative way is, in case if you’re not using any of the devices try to remove those devices and add the new devices that are required.

@blake.arnold my hub just became a boat anchor.

I have a Rpi, a Zooz ZWave stick and a Zigbee stick on the way. I guess its Hass.io for me. The silence here on this issue is BEYOND deafening. You guys have fun.

Give me a shout if you do have any issues, here or there. Happy to help! You will not regret it. With the recent update and Home Energy management you will have a lot of extra fun to tinker with.
But before you through in the the towel, just try to run both side by side. AFAIK the SmartThings integration give quite a lot options to HA through the SmartThings Hub.

Otherwise, I have a bit of a feeling that it is again a “who we shall not name” moment, like the SMS service was taken off.

Thanks for the offer, G… If I go, Im all in. I preach keep the automation in one place and as native and as close to the devices as possible. If I have an RPi running Hass.io and NodeRed, I’ll just port my WebCoRE pistons to Node Red equivalents (was already working on that considering replacing WebCoRE with NodeRed) so I simply wont need anything from ST.

Do you have more than 200 devices connected to one hub?

Otherwise it sounds like you could put all the hub-connected devices (zwave and zigbee) on one location and any virtual devices and C2C devices on another location.

I have no idea what happens after that, though. Or how ActionTiles or SharpTools handle multiple locations.

BTW…lowering the max without announcing it ahead of time seems unconscionable. :rage: You definitely have my sympathies.

Thanks @JDRoberts Appreciated…

Some quick Excel-Fu shows about 148-ish (my filter may be wrong but it’s late and I’m not into digging) physical devices.

I thought about that. But lets just say, cross-location automation is, less than stellar.

Oh, then you would miss the Automation debugging, but I read somewhere that NodeRed just introduced some new feature for flow debugging and that sounds something big there as well.

Another much respected member went to H… and then onto node red, seems that is where the power users end up

I can’t claim to be anything near you guys or as intelligent but your comments and advice will be greatly missed.

I’m curious about what you are using for cross-location Automations, is it WebCore, IFTTT, Alexa Virtual Switches, or sometime else?

@Brad_ST please give us a heads up on if this indeed going to stay (200 max)

Am I being especially stupid or have we lost the ability to hide devices with this update? Didn’t it used to be an option when long pressing/holding a device (alongside edit, move to other room)

There use to be the ability to hide rooms/devices on the old dashboard but it has been replaced with the favorites screen where you can choose which devices you want to display on it.

We haven’t heard anything definitive about this being a permanent thing (the hard 200 device limit), have we?

Oh I see. That’s annoying, I prefer to have stuff delineated by rooms rather than having everything useful in one ‘favourites’ blob, but there are lots of devices that I’ll never need to see that I’d quite like to hide.

I’ll just stick everything I never need to see in a ‘pointless’ room and hope they bring back the hide function. Cheers

Not sure if this is from the update on the app or the galaxy find app.

But there are some new items on the galaxy find app.

There are 2 tabs on the bottom now. On the my devices tab you can now share your location with other users. And on the second tab you can view the location of the users that have shared their location with everyone.

Could be useful.

It has me wondering which Galaxy phone is the most suitable for dogs.

The galaxy companion app has also been updated.

There is also now an option for when you receive a call on your phone, to mute your tv and the clock app has gotten even more options.
