Smart Tag 2 Only Sees My Phone

I have 2 smart tag 2’s that I want to use for my dog’s collar and daughters backpack. I have activated one of them and as long as it is traveling with me it tracks where the tag is but when I tried putting it on my daughters backpack its last position when I dropped her off at school is the only map location it shows and has for 3 days now. If you try to refresh it will only show that the tag is still in front of the school even though her backpack was over at her grandparents all weekend. btw, her grandparents have Samsung phones. It’s hard to figure out the settings parameters to use to make the tag work.

My understanding is that when the tag is set up correctly and is near other Samsung phones, those phones act as beacons and can provide you with their location meaning that the tag was close to them at one point. This “web” system sounds plausible but how do you get that activated? Do the other people’s Samsung phones need to have a special setting in their bios? Is there a screenshot of the “settings” parameters that someone has to show the correct settings? I know about most of the obvious modes like “Lost”, “Left behind”, “Share Device’s Location”, but can’t seem to “unstick” the location of in front of her school so it updates to at least her grandparents house. Do you have a list of how the parameters need to be set up to make the tag work? Right now the thing is pretty much useless until I can get it to work properly. Suggestions?

When it comes to Samsung phones being able to locate your tags, look for ‘Offline Finding’ in the settings of those phones. It also ties in with the ‘Allow devices to be found’ settings in SmartThings Find.

It is all a bit of a mess with Find My Mobile, SmartThings Find and Samsung Find all appearing on the phone these days.

Thanks, do you know if the Offline Finding default is in the “On” position for Samsun phones normally? I just went to Settings: Security and Privacy: Find My Mobile: Offline Finding, and found my phone in the “On” position for Offline Finding

Yeah this is every bit of a mess trying to get the tag to work like it is supposed to. I knew going in that these weren’t real GPS tags but I at least was hoping to see if it would loosely track a reasonable location for lost items based on other people’s Samsung phones acting as way points. I am getting my daughters backpack with the tag on it on Tuesday and will check to see if the tag is marked “On” under the Allow Devices to be Found and Offline Finding

Default is on nowadays.
