Schlage locks going offline/online

On the phone with Schlage now. They say if there is an issue, they would be flooded with phone calls.

Schlage Customer support. 1 (888) 805-9837

Half hour wait.

I also Filled out the form here:

https://www.schlage.com/en/home/contact-us.html

Any chance this is a class action suit type thing? I just so frustrated and tired of product I purchase being “updated” till they are useless.

Just got off the phone with Schlage support. Read him ubugarrity’s post and counted the number of online/offline notifications I’ve received today. He was very polite and said he was new and didn’t want to provide me with any inaccurate information. He put me on hold to call his supervisor. Connected his supervisor to the call and I was told they are aware of the issue and two days ago they were in contact with SmartThings. They are working on a solution. Hopefully it was all true.

I didn’t get a chance to call that number yet, but also filled out the form. I have no idea how helpful filling out that form would be but I think it can’t hurt if we approach it with volume

I filled out the form also, hope is true that they are working on a solution with Smartthings.

Pleased to report my “brain transplant” process of replacing my existing SmartThings wired hub running the faulty v55.00005 firmware which continues to be unable to maintain connection with my Schlage FE599 locks and replacing it with a $20 SmartThings Connect Home model that caps out at an older firmware 52.000021, appears to have “fixed” the issue of rapid on/off connectivity with the Schlage locks, as it has continued to do at another property that has only ever run the Connect Home hub/WiFi models.

Outside of the PITA process of manually moving dozens of devices from one hub to another and working through an initial loss of control over the lock, I now have my trust Schlage locks working again, same as before the 54.x firmware mucked things up for this otherwise great lock.

Worth noting, it appears these (now broken) Schlage FE599 locks continue to be promoted by Samsung as “Featured” locks within the Schlage brand when looking in Settings > Supported devices > door locks > Schlage. Nice.

I bought a Yale Assure Lever YRL226-ZW2-619 from Amazon before seeing that Schlage is admitting a problem. I admit it’s pricey & would not be a viable solution if I had more than 1 lock. I didn’t want to wait and see if a fix does come to fruition. It works as expected.

So did this and it cut down on a lot of the noise… we have multiple locks and hubs, script just shows one with 3 locks… we have 50+ locks total… Built a script in SharpTools to refresh the locks, then wait 5 minutes… then lock the lock (we keep them locked by default so not a big deal)…

Script is executed with a HTTP trigger…

Cron job running every 30 minutes (24x7) to launch HTTP trigger…

refresh script sample: wget -q --delete-after https://trigger.sharptools.io/rule/UID

Cron entry sample:
*/30 * * * * /home/smartthings/./refresh

Must really cut down on the battery life

No major issues yet on battery life.

I have given up and pulled my SmartThings hub out. Too many issues and shortcomings with this platform. I tried for 7 years, this is the last straw! Installed Home Assistant without issue and all my devices work including my Schlage fe599 lock. It has unlimited options and many of the features I needed are now available😊. I should not have waited this long….

Home Assistant is just a software right? which hub do you use for communicating with old zwave devices? i am in similar situation now. using smartthing for a long time, but now half of my devices can not connect. rest of the half flip constantly.

I bought a “home assistant green” hub with a zooz 800 zwave usb stick. my zwave attached fine and I programed them to work as needed. a powerful solution vs smartthings.

thanks for sharing. worthy trying. sick of ST now.

I’m not seeing any change in the Schlage online/offline reporting.

Today I have a new one, I live in Florida and have hurricane screens (3) on the back of my lanai. They are automated to go down at dusk and up in the morning. This is all coordinated thru SmartThings. I receive notifications of when they go up and down. Today in the morning, the notification said they are CLOSED and they just went down and the notification says they’re OPEN. I can’t believe how poor ST is becoming. What NEXT?

What is the model you purchased for $20 and where can I findi it?
Thanks

This seems fishy to me. Because the lock is not constantly offline; it comes and goes. If it were some security flaw that smartthings update supposedly fixed, it did a lousy job.

In any event, it shows the general deterioration of the smart home. It was a great idea, but apparently its time has come and gone. Combine this recent lock unreliability with Amazon’s destruction of the list interface, and this thing is rapidly becoming nothing more than a battery-eater.

A ‘smart’ home that demands relentless maintenance while constantly losing capabilities is pretty fecken stupid.

I asked Schlage if there was any updates, they emailed me back today.

“Thank you for your email! I sincerely apologize for this ongoing issue, I can definitely understand the frustration.

We do know that Smart Things will be making a Firmware version change to the hub in early 2025. We do recommend to keep checking the hub device and update as releases are being pushed out.”

If you have access to this driver, we’ve added an option in the settings page to try and workaround this issue through a driver temporarily until SmartThings has a proper fix in the hub.

Is this working for others? I have two Schlage FE599 deadbolts at two different locations and they continue to go online and offline throughout the day and night.

Hi @croust1370,

Did you purchase the universal enhanced z-wave driver from Rboyapps and the problem persists?
@RBoy I have a the schlage lock 599 and the hub 15’ apart. Your driver solution won’t work without a repeater?
