Schlage locks going offline/online

I have two SmartThings systems. They happen to be 1,200 miles apart (Michigan-Florida). In Michigan, I have 2 Schlage locks in Michigan. Since October 16 one or the other have been going on and offline. I receive a notification each time. As of 8:01AM this morning the total is 166 times. I’m in Florida, any suggestions?

I recommend reporting the issue to ST Support. In the app, tap on Menu and select Contact us. It could be related to the recent hub firmware update.

model of your ST hub? model of the Schlage lock? z-wave or zigbee? which Edge driver assigned to the locks?

I agree that something has been broken with these locks. I have two, and a family member also has two, and they have constantly gone “offline” and “online” for around a week now. I am fixing to just unplug the smart thing hub for a month until they figure it out.

I have sent the info to SmartThings Support. I’ll let you know what happens. Thanks!

Thank, having the same issue here also. Was beginning to think it was a bad driver.

I too am having this issue. Replaced the batteries at 50% thinking that was the cause but the lock is still disconnecting/reconnecting several times a day at 100%. This began happening roughly 7 days ago.

I’m having the same issue with two Schlage FE599NX locks on different hubs many miles apart. It started first with the lock on the Samsung 3rd gen hub and more recently with the lock on the Aeotec hub.

Tried Rboys Migration Drivers, SmartThings, Lock PH and Lock PH beta and they al have the same issues. Seeing it on FE599NX and FE595NX.

Thanks for posting this. This is really interesting since I’ve been troubleshooting this for several weeks now on one particular Schlage FE599 lock that has been flawless for several years then all of a sudden has been acting up going on and off-line multiple times per day. I have been making a ton of changes to my local network/router in hopes that something was conflicting with the hub’s communication. It’s particularly odd since I have two other SmartThings hubs in different locations with the exact same lock and zero issues. However, the other locks are a version, 3 wireless hub, and a SmartThings home Wi-Fi network with integrated hub, both newer than the version 2 hub that has been having the problems.

I have also just recently discovered that initiating a reboot of the hub through the advanced web interface almost immediately brings the lock back online.

I’ll open a support request as well, but I’m curious if this is a version 2 hub you are having issues with as well? Please do let us know what you hear back from the SmartThings support on this. It has been driving me crazy, and I had actually been thinking the same as others that there was an issue with this particular lock. As others have pointed out changing the driver, installing new batteries, and excluding and re-adding the lock have made zero difference.

I have tried all four of these drivers and none are stable. They go online/offline all day long at multiple locations. Interestingly some even go offline at the same time.

One is SmartThings
One is Rboy Migration Driver
Two are PH drivers

This happened after a recent upgrade to the SmartThings hub. I also rebooted everything. NO luck, just constant notifications on phone that lock is offline.

I will add that they are disconnecting at the same time (or within 90 seconds) from both hubs.

Same here. My Schlage lock FE599NX goes offline for a bit comes back online for bit and so on. I have tried rebooting the hub, change the batteries and reprogram without any luck. Does anyone have any other suggestions.

There is a thread on this already. I suspect @JDRoberts may want to move these posts there.

Done as suggested. :sunglasses:

@rbendell what did you hear back from the SmartThings support? @buster @afrakes @CharlieS ?

I have a case opened with them and I am simply battling this hour by hour by force rebooting the hub to get the lock back online, but it’s definitely not sustainable. Appreciate if anyone else has heard anything back from support.

I have not heard anything back from smartthings. My guess is there’s nothing that can be done (such as with drivers) until they release a new firmware update that hopefully includes a fix. I did remove the lock from smartthings and add it to the Ring hub and that resolves the issue with it going offline, however the status doesn’t update to locked when auto lock happens, it does update when locked using the buttons on the lock.

I too am having this problem of intermittent offline for a Schlage FE599NX on a Aeotec Smart Home Hub that started recently.

Hub is running the latest update (Firmware

Update:

  • I’ve now dusted off and duplicated this issue on a spare hub as well, v3 model on this one, but also upgraded to firmware version 54.13 and connected to the same Schlage FE599 lock.
  • A third hub that was yet updated beyond firmware 52.21 and linked to the same Schlage FE599 lock continues to work flawlessly and has now been reconfigured to disable all automatic updates until this firmware situation gets resolved.

Samsung support’s requested the usual steps to try and eliminate the possibility of a bad configuration:

  1. Uninstall and re-install the SmartThings app.
  2. Remove and re-add the device.
  3. Reboot the Hub.

While I could not (easily) do again with my v2 hub since its quite a distance away, I have just completed these steps on my backup v3 hub with a history of dropping the FE599 lock at least a dozen times over the course of the last day. We’ll see if anything changes with the exclude/re-add, but since I had already done this prior to opening my support case with Samsung on v2 hub I’m not holding my breath.

When I first encountered this problem, I suspected that the old lock was just getting flaky. Then, it started happening on another newer lock (same model) on a newer hub (Aeotec). Sounds pretty clear that it’s the hub firmware. Hoping that Samsung fixes this soon or provides a way to go back to a working firmware version. Rather annoying with all these notifications.

FYI: The Automatic Update Button only controls ZigBee and possibly Matter updates. It doesn’t control hub updates.

What does control hub updates?
