Scenes missing and device duplication in Google Home

I’m having two related issues with my home’s SmartThings to Google Home integration. They both stem from trying to get my wife access to the scenes I’ve created in SmartThings.

Main issue: Everything in SmartThings is available in my wife’s Google Home app, except scenes.

Secondary issue: In trying to get my wife access to our scenes, I added her in SmartThings and she then connected her SmartThings account to her Google Home account which did add the scenes, but created duplicates of all of our devices.

Question: How can my wife get access to our SmartThings scenes without having to created duplicates of everything else?

Hey there! @bmdcs, I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with duplicates showing in the Google Home App. I’d be happy to recommend some suggestions to try.

Main issue: Everything in SmartThings is available in my wife’s Google Home app, except scenes.

When this symptom was occurring and Smart Things devices were displayed who’s Smart Things Account was linked? Yours or your wife’s account? I would assume you would need to be logged into yours, as she did not create the scenes or have access to the account as a member at that point in time.

If I remember correctly, the command to use while logged into your account to sync between all linked providers was “Google, Sync my devices”. It should announce the names or number of providers that it syncs devices with.

Note - When adding a member to Smart Things, it gives them full access to control all devices and scenes.

I added her in SmartThings and she then connected her SmartThings account to her Google Home account which did add the scenes, but created duplicates of all of our devices.

I believe this is where the duplicates came from, two accounts with access to all the devices and scenes were integrated into your Google Home account. Whereas you only need your account linked, and synchronized.

Can you try the following steps:

  1. Completely remove her ST account from Google home
  2. On her device logging in with your ST credentials
  3. If the scenes do not display, try using the command “sync devices”.

Do you notice any change in the symptoms once her account has been removed, yours added, and the devices now synced?

I hope this message finds you well!

I have the same issue. if i remove my wifes smarthing account from google home, then she cant control scenes…can someone please healp

The problem is that only the Google user whose account is linked to SmartThings can see the Scenes unless they are placed inside a Room inside a Home on the Google side. Unfortunately there is no way of doing that for Scenes. It used to be possible using the ‘Home Control’ settings in Google Assistant but Google changed that quite a long time ago.

Having said that, Google/Nest Home devices will allow voice control of Scenes belonging to any user registered on that device regardless of the above, whether the voice user or the Scene owner wants that to be possible or not. I’ve struck that out as it is possible/probable I had Google Routines in mind.

How do i enable that so my wife can control scenes in smart things…you saidhome will let any user control scene in the last line

Actually I probably had Google Home Routines in mind when I wrote that bit.

I’ll defer to someone who actually uses SmartThings Scenes with Google. It is not something I would do and I barely even use them in SmartThings. I think if I did want to do it I’d probably use virtual devices to activate SmartThings automations.

So essentially there is nothing i can do… we don’t have access virtual devices in aus on smart things
