Samsung WF7500 series washer/dryer on smartthings

I did get it to connect but I have no idea how and Samsung specifically stated they no longer offer support for this device.

All I did is when I got the error on the app is I just tried the app process again without touching the washer or dryer. It will probably take ten times or so. Also leave the little door open where you insert the usb stick. I will try and make a video. Might be a long one filled with confusion and frustration. Be sure you don’t have any add blockers or VPNs running on your phone and also be sure you are only connected to your 2.4 ghz WiFi. Forget your 5 ghz if you have two WiFi choices.

I was able to set it up but it’s unusable due to Smarthing device registration. Trying to figure out how to update the software on this thing. Any ideas?

Question for those with 6500, I can get through the whole process and my iphone has recognized the washer but to confirm I am to push the ‘Smart Control’ button on the washer.

Well, there’s no ‘smart control’ button but a ‘Pre Wash’ button which is to be held for 3 seconds to activate Smart Control. So a 5 seconds hold puts the washer into “AP” pairing mode setup mode just fine. The app recognizes the washer once I’ve connected to the [washer] wifi as directed. But now, the app asks for confirmation by pressing the smart control button. There isn’t one, of course.

I’ve tried just pushing the ‘Pre Wash’ button (nothing), tried holding the button for 3 seconds (as if to activate smart control) (nothing), and also held for 5 seconds which then seems to reset everything. I’ve tried the Start/Stop (nothing), and also the power button (which, um, powers off the unit).

My main question is Which button (and for how long to press) to confirm when the app asks to confirm (by just pressing the Smart Control button)? This is crazy. There’s no button but it’s a sub-function of the Pre-Wash button.

It seems it would be helpful just to use the ‘real’ button of start/stop be the confirmation button back to the app since there is no direct “smart control” button on this model. It’s an infuriating design and process.

UPDATE: I did finally get things to connect … what a pain. To confirm (ignoring the instructions on the app which are useless for the 6500 model) connection to app/Smartthings (new app):

Dryer: Push and hold Smart Monitor “button” until AP goes away (check app … if not connected then try holding button again to turn on Smart Monitor). It takes a few times (it did for me). NOTE: Smart Monitor mode stayed on this whole time (the red icon remained lit) until connected.

Washer: Same as above but Smart Control, but hold until AP goes away then hold down until Smart Control turns on again. Look for red icon to appear. Again, it may take a few times to get it right.

Very unfriendly design for sure. I’d recommend just selecting another ‘real button’ requiring only a single satisfying push to confirm and exit AP mode in this process.

Thanks very much for your Update, which was an enormous help in getting my new 6500 washer/dryer connected.

Here are a few additional bits of info that I hope might help any other consumer who has been unnecessarily frustrated by this process:

  1. For both the washer and dryer, I needed to use the “turn AP off” (press and hold) and then “turn AP on” (another press and hold) sequence in order to make the final connection during the setup process. (You’ll know you’re at step because ST will be warning you NOT to press and hold. Ignore ST lol)

  2. I also needed to modify my router settings to select “n only” (vs the default “b/g/n”) on the 2.4 GHz network

So I’ve spent several days searching and trying every suggestion out there to no avail on my 6500 series washer. I was getting ready to do some laundry and as I closed the door I realized that the door has been open every time I’ve tried to connect. I closed it and went through the process again and it worked immediately! Don’t know why this didn’t occur to me before. I did have my phone in airplane mode and connected to my 2.4ghz network. It’s set for G/N so don’t think having it on N exclusively really matters. Anyway, hope this might help someone else out there who’s been going crazy trying to get it to connect.

After all kinds of frustration and zero help from Samsung with the help of this thread I finally managed to make it all work. Kyparamedic had the final clue. Here are the steps.

  1. Absolutely make sure the washer door is closed BEFORE you try to connect to Smart Things otherwise it will NOT WORK (trust me on this)

  2. Once the door is closed the connection instruction in the Smart Things AP are partially wrong. Yes, you must hold down the Smart Control(Pre-Wash) button until you see AP flashing. However after that when you get to the point where it says to touch but NOT to hold down the Smart Control (Pre-Wash) button do the opposite…hold it down until the AP on the display goes away.

  3. As soon as the AP in the display goes away hold the Smart Control (Pre-Wash) button down again until the AP comes back on the display.

  4. Make sure you connect to your 2.4G network.

  5. Wait for it to download and install and after that you should be good to go.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I had literally tried everything but somehow I missed that everytime I tried to connect I had the door open. I thought to myself no way it could be something that simple. As soon as I closed the door - BOOM! - Success. So thank you for sharing thay key detail. I am now sane again.

Thank you so much

This thread is gold. When connecting, it says press smart connect (do not hold) to verify but that doesnt work. The turn off AP then back on method does the trick. I didnt need to turn off all wifi devices nor reconfigure the router. My machine is monitor only but thats ok because I just want notifications when the wash is done.
