Question for those with 6500, I can get through the whole process and my iphone has recognized the washer but to confirm I am to push the ‘Smart Control’ button on the washer.
Well, there’s no ‘smart control’ button but a ‘Pre Wash’ button which is to be held for 3 seconds to activate Smart Control. So a 5 seconds hold puts the washer into “AP” pairing mode setup mode just fine. The app recognizes the washer once I’ve connected to the [washer] wifi as directed. But now, the app asks for confirmation by pressing the smart control button. There isn’t one, of course.
I’ve tried just pushing the ‘Pre Wash’ button (nothing), tried holding the button for 3 seconds (as if to activate smart control) (nothing), and also held for 5 seconds which then seems to reset everything. I’ve tried the Start/Stop (nothing), and also the power button (which, um, powers off the unit).
My main question is Which button (and for how long to press) to confirm when the app asks to confirm (by just pressing the Smart Control button)? This is crazy. There’s no button but it’s a sub-function of the Pre-Wash button.
It seems it would be helpful just to use the ‘real’ button of start/stop be the confirmation button back to the app since there is no direct “smart control” button on this model. It’s an infuriating design and process.
UPDATE: I did finally get things to connect … what a pain. To confirm (ignoring the instructions on the app which are useless for the 6500 model) connection to app/Smartthings (new app):
Dryer: Push and hold Smart Monitor “button” until AP goes away (check app … if not connected then try holding button again to turn on Smart Monitor). It takes a few times (it did for me). NOTE: Smart Monitor mode stayed on this whole time (the red icon remained lit) until connected.
Washer: Same as above but Smart Control, but hold until AP goes away then hold down until Smart Control turns on again. Look for red icon to appear. Again, it may take a few times to get it right.
Very unfriendly design for sure. I’d recommend just selecting another ‘real button’ requiring only a single satisfying push to confirm and exit AP mode in this process.
