Samsung TV's & Samsung TV (Connect) App

I’ve spent a few weeks messing with connecting my Samsung TV’s to my SmartThings environment… I have a couple that were pretty easy to connect as they are newer 2019 models… I also have a 2015 and 2016 model that are not connecting at all using normal methods…

I’ve read almost all the threads with various ideas and comments as to what is and what is not supported…

Then I found this… It’s an app baked into the Template section of the SmartThings IDE… There is an accompanying Device Handler named “Samsung Smart TV” that must be installed along with the app…

When the app runs from my phone, either on the new or old platform, it instantly discovers both of the older TV’s and I can add them…

Although they are now added, there is no functionality trying to use them and they display an incorrect status of the TV…

But, they are there! And maybe at one time this was the way we added TV’s to the environment? The data on the code is 2015…

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is and if it’s at all valuable today?

Thanks!

I got a new Samsung TV this week.
On boot, the TV asked me to install the SmartThings app (I already had this) and add a new device. It allowed the WiFi data to be copied to the TV first, then the setup via phone failed. I continued by remote.

I got it added later after setting up by remote.
