Samsung fridge + Aeotec hub question

Hi! I’m new to smarthome stuff and just bought an Aeotec hub to control my various Matter-enabled devices (Wiz lights, Govee lights, smart locks, etc.).

I have a Samsung fridge with a SmartThings hub. Is there a way to integrate it with the Aeotec hub so I can use its screen as my main interface for controlling my devices?

Did you already have the Aeotec hub? The fridge is as much a SmartThings hub as the Aeotec is, though the fridge might need an optional dongle to support Zigbee and Matter over Thread devices if it only has Wi-Fi.

I don’t know the details but it should have a SmartThings app of sorts that you can use. Plenty of users on here seem to have them.

Most of your post is incorrect and misleading.

The Aeotec hub is identical to the SmartThings hub V3 and works as a SmartThings hub.

Some responses in this thread read like ChatGPT answers to a misleading question.

Yeah, some of the answers really do read like ChatGPT.

Sorry if the question was unclear; let me try to clarify:

I have a Samsung fridge with a SmartThings hub, but I don’t know if it’s Matter-enabled. It’s from 2021.

I got an Aeotec hub because it was recommended to me based on the various devices I have.

Once I get everything set up, I want to have a screen in my kitchen from which someone can control the lights and other devices. (I can do it from my phone, but petsitters, guests, etc. may not want to install an app.)

Is that something my fridge can serve as, or am I better off mounting an old iPad to the wall?

Both hubs are Matter-enabled.

There’s only Matter over Thread or Matter over WiFi. I don’t know if your fridge has a Thread radio and can therefore act as a Thread border router, but your Aeotec SmartThings Hub certainly can.

Just set up both hubs in ST and maybe create a hub group for good measure.

@orangebucket answered your other question: your fridge should have the SmartThings app installed - see what you can do with it.

I mean, it would take half an hour to answer your own questions. Just set it up, add a Matter device or a cheap wifi bulb and see if you can control it from the panel.

That’s where I’m stymied. I can’t find a SmartThings app on my fridge.

If I could answer it on my own, friend, I wouldn’t be asking here. I spent a fair amount of time googling before I posted.

I understand that my fridge is a hub. What I can’t figure out is how to actually access any interface on my fridge that will let me manage my other devices.

You know what? Let me restate the question in a different way.

Desired outcome: a screen in my kitchen (that is not a phone) on which users can manage my smart devices.

Components: Samsung fridge that is supposedly a hub, Aeotec hub, smart devices (lights, appliances, locks, cameras, etc.), iPad

Issue: I can’t figure out how to use the screen on my fridge as an interface (there does not appear to be a SmartThings app on my fridge, nor does it appear available for download). Is my fridge an option for serving as the main non-phone device management interface, or should I just get an iPad wall docking station and use the iPad?

… let me find a video for you:

And you have already activated the hub and added it to the SmartThings app, right?

Yes. I can access it from the SmartThings app on my phone.

Hmm, that looks like what I want, but there are a lot of options in that video that aren’t showing up on my fridge. Thanks, having terminology (like “SmartHome board”) gives me better search terms. Maybe I can use that to figure out why it doesn’t seem to be available on my fridge.

It’s a whole section of the manual that comes with the fridge!

I’m aware. I followed the instructions in the manual when I got my fridge.

I can see and manage my fridge from the SmartThings app on my phone.

And also: There is no SmartThings app available on my fridge, and the options shown in the video do not appear on my fridge.

So you basically followed the instructions that I’ve linked above?

Select Widget settings — SmartThings Hub on SmartThings Widget or Connections — SmartThings Hub on the Settings app.

Huh. My manual says “Widget settings”, which I don’t have, but I do have the “Connections” option. Restarting to see if I have the Hub panel after a restart.

How’s it going?

The ST hub functionality on the Family Hub is completely separate from the ST app function on the fridge. Even if you don’t enable the ST hub function, you should have the ST app/UI.

Starting in Tizen 7.0, the ST UI was moved to a tab on the Home screen. On my fridge, it’s the fourth tab, so put your finger on the screen and swipe left several times.

… as shown in the video I’ve linked above…
