Im trying to factory reset a smartThings hub gen 2 model sth-eth-250 to get it ready for sale. However, I believe I’ll need to provide the buyer with a new welcome code. How can I get a new welcome code?
You need to reach out to Customer Support as ST Staff are no longer monitoring the forum. I am not sure but I believe it will need to be done by the new owner since it may need to be registered under their email address.
if in US:
if outside US:
go to https://www.samsung.com
scroll to bottom of screen
tap on Support Home in the Support section
look for Apps and Services and tap on it
tap on SmartThings
scroll down to see contact methods available
someone mentioned Whatapps worked best for them
follow up question - when was the last date that you had the hub connected?
Makes sense, Thanks!
It would be a good thing to supply THE Welcome Code when you sell the hub, but just to be clear it is the same Welcome Code you would have installed the hub with. Have you checked to see if the welcome code is printed inside the battery compartment, as I understand it was on later models of the V2?
If you don’t have it you will need to contact Customer Support as advised, quoting your hub serial number. If the hub is no longer installed in your account you might be asked for evidence that you own the hub, such as a photo of the serial number.
You can sell the hub without the Welcome Code and leave the buyer to request it, but I personally think it is nice to be able to say that you’ve recently factory reset and reinstalled the hub using the provided code, and then removed it again. It is even better if you can say you’ve installed the latest firmware on it, which you may have an opportunity to do as it is being rolled out at the moment.
