Presence detection no longer working as expected

This has been discussed in another topic Online devices shown as offline (Meross)

Thank you!!

Can you please provide more details on this approach? I am a Tasker novice. :frowning:

This seems like the most straightforward way to approximate the legacy Life360/Groovy platform experience. I could dedicate a spare Android phone to permanently be plugged in at home, running Tasker, and enroll it as a dummy family member into Life360 so that it receives all the notifications and pushes them via Tasker to SmartThings. None of the family members’ phones would need to be modified at all, I think – not even mine?

Edit: figured it out based on various threads here plus some experimentation! My toolchain:

  • Tasker profile (Context: AutoNotifications plugin , Task: Net / HTTP Request)
  • SmartThings API (@TAustin’s virtual presence sensors, device IDs obtained via TaskerNet SmartThings Rest API, referencing presence sensors as switches via /command capability using on/off commands)
  • SmartThings Automations

The whole thing is running on an otherwise idle and unused old Pixel 4a that remains at all times plugged in at home. The only apps I had to download are Tasker and AutoNotifications, i.e. neither SharpTools nor any other Tasker plugins were needed. No impact to the family phones – things are just as they used to be back in the halcyon days of the Groovy-based environment.

As an added bonus I can now define extra rules based on my family members’ Life360 locations other than home. E.g. I can turn the thermostat a degree cooler in the evening when I am approaching the spot on the highway where I am 15 min away from home.
