For those that don’t know April Wong, she join SmartThings a few years ago and was one of the first community advocates. She switched a while back to a cool marketing role at SmartThings, doing the event planning (for small little shows like CES).
The last few developer calls have been, well, not very productive or positive. A lot of time is wasted typing questions and not really talking about what’s going on inside ST and what the community developers are doing / working on, etc.
April was amazing at Developer and Community Marketing and really great at promoting what the community develoeprs were doing. We need more of this!
We miss April and her marketing take on things. We need April back, just an hour or two every two weeks to help run the dev calls and allow the Developer Advocates, Jody and Tim to focus on their jobs, take notes, follow up on issues, etc. We’ve all heard how busy they are, and trying to run a show is hard work. I know… April made it look effortless (which it is not).
The youtube rebroadcasts are proof enough. Here is one from a few weeks ago… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwPlu4vDleY
vs last year
The energy, enthusiasm, passion that April put into those calls was amazing. She went out of her way to bring people into the calls both inside ST and the community.
Since April left, the developer calls have been missing something… It hit me last night that something was April.
I am formally asking @alex to consider carving off some of @April workload and allow her to bring back her amazing passion for this community and host the Dev Calls so that @jody.albritton, @slagle, @Jim and all the other ST resources can bring their expertise to the call and not have to focus on the challenges of hosting a call.
So, if you agree (or disagree) please share your thoughts, but we need April back and her energy and passion for this community.
Make April the face (and voice) of the SmartThings Community Developer Calls once again!
