New Smartthings V4 Hub released, do you already know about it?

Whether we have Zwave or not, the most important thing is that we will have an updated hub and who knows, maybe even better…

Maybe by the time they do a wide release, they will have a way to migrate only some devices to a new hub and allow the hubs to communicate with each other locally for routines. So those with zwave can keep an older hub for zwave and migrate all other devices to the new hub without having to deal with cloud routines.

I also saw the Z-Wave Plus logo at least once during the video, but the box clearly doesn’t have a Z-Wave logo.

If it has Z-Wave, I would have expected a Z-Wave LR logo not Z-Wave Plus logo.

Without zwave, many of us will need to make a choice to bail on ST, replace much of our infrastructure or limp along on V2/V3 hub until they become obsolete.

Do hub groups help resolve the memory limit issue? I believe in one oh his videos he showed the new V4 hub being in a hub group. If Apple’s Korean translation is right, I believe his hub group had the V4, 2 stations and a V3 hub.

Neither the appearance of a new hub nor the omission of Z-Wave is particularly surprising to me, but absent any simple means of integrating Z-Wave capability, there is no updated hub for me. Obviously, for those with a much smaller number of Z-Wave devices (or none at all), the new hub is far more welcome news.

I had hoped we might see Z-Wave LR implemented. And there’s an outside chance it still will be, as last I remember the Z-Wave Alliance hadn’t made LR available outside the United States. But I’m not holding my breath on that. It seems unlikely.

Fortunately, I’m well-invested in both Hubitat and Home Assistant (the latter of which is expanding its Z-Wave footprint with a new device announcement on 8/13) and I’ve been contemplating (or determinedly procrastinating ) further migration for some time. So I’m comfortable with my options, even if I’m not looking forward to the effort required.

i’d say these GP-AEOHUBV4 variants all but confirms it’s coming under the Aeotec brand, too.

It certainly looks like it, but perhaps we also need to question whether the V3 will remain in production when the V4 rolls out. It seems unlikely that it will do.

Alllll the Aeotec varieties

No, they don’t. In a hub group, the primary hub processes all messages from devices and has all the drivers. The secondary hubs in the group simply act as radio repeaters. This is similar to the way the ST hub operates on the Wi-Fi hubs.

Now I understand the difficulty of finding the new AEOTEC hub, they probably already knew about the new one…

Unfortunately, the market Samsung appears to be targeting isn’t many of us. In other words, mass market consumers–not the techies inclined to fiddle and tweak their way into a pretty slick automated home!

That being said, if Z-Wave is your platform of choice for whatever reason, there are alternatives. I’ve been pretty happy with the Z-Box Hub and it now has ZWLR support, as well. I’ve kept my two old ST v2 Hubs up to date, firmware wise, and will probably be offering them for sale at some point…

Is there a way to integrate a ZBox Hub and ST?

Also keep an eye on August 13th for Home Assistant announcement…

Short answer: no. :sad_but_relieved_face:

Long answer: I’m sure somebody somewhere has managed to proxy a rube Goldberg solution, maybe using MQTT, but it’s not off the shelf, it’s not official, and it’s not going to be elegant.
